Cooling System Flush/Antifreeze Refill

Hey everyone, I am going to be doing a cooling system flush on my 2006 Chevy Silverado and I was curious what color antofreeze to use. When I bought the truck it did not have the owners manual and the Chiltons book I have does not say what kind to use. The only information I can find is not to mix green and orange coolant and the coolant that is already in my truck is red. Thanks for the help.

You can use Dex-Cool (reddish, orange color) or go with the traditional green. If you go with the green, be sure to flush the system to remove all of the Dex-Cool

I'd use dex-cool. Some hate it, some love it. But my truck is an 01, had its first flush in 2016. That's 15 years and 115,000 miles with the factory coolant. In those 15 years, it was used to tow a 9,000 pound 5th wheel camper all across the US. A lot of heat was put in that motor with that coolant. When I flushed it in 2016, there appeared to be no break down of the chemicals at all. The coolant bottle was very clean, and the thermostat was clean as well

Just remember, if you switch from one to the other, you need to flush all the old stuff out, as the two types of coolant don't mix well (it forms a kind of sludge)...

Stick with death cool. I mean Dex cool. Seriously stay with it though.
