Typical Battery Life on K2's?

I had the same batteries in my 2004.5 Dodge for most of its 300k miles, just replaced them before I traded on this 2012. Those same batteries (2004 vintage) still hold charge, I use them to run pumps and lights on remote sites...they still work fine after 14 years?

But this thread has me second guessing leaving the battery in my 2012...both of then are 2012 vintage and over 110k miles of driving. Should I replace them...maybe next month since it's right about $300 for the pair from Deka.

You could always just get them tested at a shop you trust.

I'll be buying an agm battery when mine goes. Helps with all the electronic stuff.

Not much difference between a lead acid and a AGM battery. I wouldn't mind trying one of the new lithium iron phosphate batteries but you need a second mortgage for a car sized one.

Yeah, trying to figure that one out too? I have little to no experience with AGM for Phoenix heat. I have asked numerous automotive people out here and they all agree buy the cheapest one i.e. Costco I do believe GM is putting AGM's into the stop start vehicles as of late?

I'm a Jeep guy also. I use agm in all that I had. Currently looking for a new project one. The are a lot better than acid battery. Mount any position, don't get hot,and does hold power longer when engine isn't running. With that and a good alternator I've had no problems. I use agm in my daily drivers with success as well.

an agm battery just has the acid captured in a slurry on the plates. no other difference. Thats why you can mount it in any position.

dont get hot? id like to see evidence of that claim.

Wow. Ok. I was thinking Johnson, Optima, Panasonic. Never considered Delphi.

Who knew? If I move to China, I'll have TONS of choices! Ha.

I did ask.

I guess my point was Sears, Walmart, Autozone, et al, buy and re-label Johnson Controls or whomever.

5 Year Walmart in my Buick lasted about 18 month. Interstate in Dad's 98 Chevy pickup is still going.

If you want ANY battery to last in Phoenix or anywhere else HOT purchase or make a heat shield for it. The more heat you can keep off it the longer it will last.

I started doing this many years ago after I dropped a 454 into a 68 impala and the starter would heat soak from the header nearby and refuse to start again till it cooled a bit. I made a small aluminum shield and no more problem. There are also purpose made products for heat shielding Thermo-Tec comes to mind also ceramic header coating helps with under-hood temps. I make shields of aluminum i get cheap at home depot in a roll for roof flashing.

IMO The only reason you should put an LiFe battery in anything is to save weight. I have them in my motorcycles and ATV's. They work really well and do not lose power storing many months but do cost a lot.

My wife's battery in her 2014 Rav with 30k died Thursday morning. My 2015 Silverado with 54k died that afternoon.

Guess we'll call them Romeo and Juliet now.

The battery in my 2002 lasted up until a month before I traded it, that was nearly 12 years! I started getting concerned so I kept one of those battery jump start things in my truck just in case but had to keep that thing charged every few weeks.
