Hey guys new to the forum I bought a 2015 LT with the puny 4" screen I plan on doing the 8" upgrade as well as adding a backup camera.  My question is I just wanted to make sure from someone who's already done it that I'm correct on what I need. Already checked my truck is IO4.

8" screen from loaner truck

HMI 2.0 programmed to my vin (I don't need factory nav Id like the android auto that 2.5 has but don't need it. Thanks in advance guys I'll post some pictures of her soon.

Awesome. I was curious to see what the options are for changing and upgrading the touch screens and the software.

I have the 8” but I’m interested in seeing if it’s possible to upgrade the software to include the “Projection” and other upgrades that’s available on post-‘15 models.

Good luck! Eager to see progress

I’m interested too, I have 8” but I want the MyLink features like what’s in the 2017 Malibu we rented to go to Houston earlier this summer. Is that interface available to flash into the dash unit I have now, or do I need a new “brain?”

I see you guys are all fairly new members so try using the Search function on these forums.  There are 2 different guys on here that do the upgrades.  They come to you plug-and-play but they are not cheap (I think around $1000).  The users are "GTPprix" and a guy named Anthony from MVI.

What do you mean by "projector" ?

You could always go the route I did with my last truck and install a full android head unit.

they even make one specific for these trucks now.

there is always these guys too. This system looks amazing and I have already reached out about making one for our trucks. You could email them and ask again. The more interest we show, the more likely they are to make one.

Did you lose any functionality at all with the android ?

I lost the compass in the gauge cluster and the steering wheel controls. The steering wheel controls would work, I just never finished setting it up.

the small losses were more than made up for with the big gains. I just set up the hot spot on my phone and ran everything natively on the HU. Google maps, calendars, Pandora, Waze... HBOGO. Everything. I have the one in my vette set up with the torque app too.

I am fairly new. I’ve tried to search and have not been able to figure out how to actually find what I’m looking for. I’ll go to the search bar, and type in literally anything, and get back zero results. I must not be searching the right part of the site, but every other site I’ve ever used seems to use those search bars as a kind of spotlight search on a Mac. It should search all content on the site, but I think I am searching the wrong area. Can’t figure out how to change it though so I gave up. I found just one site tutorial but the links were all broken after the upgrade this week and I had no luck there either.

I could live without compass but need the steering wheel controls.

XM / Bluetooth work fine ? (No CarPlay / android auto as well I guess ?

Bluetooth worked but was not quite as good call quality. There is no XM antenna. But from what I understand, you can stream XM with their app. I never used it, so I’m not sure.

No carplay or android auto. Everything can run natively the unit. I have used them several times for cross country trips with google maps running navigation while Pandora or Netflix/HBOGO handle entertainment.

The units do do come with all of the little annoying things of android but also the huge world of customization. So, if you want something perfect and smooth, you may not like like it. I’m kind of techie so, I like it.

also, my old truck was a 14 Silverado LT. Im looking forward to finding out how it works with my 17 Denali.

I'm a techie too and I think it's awesome but I'm on the phone all day every day while I'm on the road for work. I'm an iPhone guy so I think missing CarPlay would be the only deal breaker. If I didn't need that I would have already ordered lol !! Keep me posted on how it is in the 17 though

When you click in the Search field in the upper right you will see a dropdown appear just to the left.  For some reason it defaults to "This Topic".  Change that dropdown to "All Content".

Thanks! I’m on my phone right now but I’ll try that when I get back to my laptop tonight.

    • This is a really late reply but I just found this thread. They won't sell the hinges. I've gone 7 rounds with them. Their solution is to buy a new cover. I'm about to buy a new cover and it won't be a Bakflip. It also won't be from realtruck.com.
    • Yes, and also pulling heavy trailers or a large camper up steep grades as well as descending grades such as the more rustic off road camping locations and using engine braking with that low gearing as well as soft ground can just suck the power . I realize pickups these days tend to have an over all lower first gear ratio compared to automatic transmission pickups from years back so that has helped a lot in its ability in high range but there comes a point if in four wheel drive the torque runs out at the wheels, certainly with a gas engine. They don't put two speed transfer cases on pickups for a cool factor, they have a function if one needs that massive torque to the wheels that high range can't deliver.
    • Notes 7/18/2026   3,400 miles on this batch of Mobil 1 Euro 5W40 since the GDI pump replacement. Alcohol runs very clean when ring seal is tight and the sump isn't getting hosed with fuel. Checked oil level at fill up today as is my practice and grabbed a white Kleenex to look at the color. What color?  I was going to change it but.....
    • 4 low is really nice on steep boat ramps.
    • Interesting, I suspect I would have fueled up in Lee Vining as the day prior I would have filled up either in Laughlin or near there and maybe again before I entered Death Valley and once out the other side late that evening as I kept on driving into the night up near Lee Vining. Next morning I most likely fueled up in LV before heading over Tioga Pass into ( as I refer to it as "Yose .... Mite" 😁 ). And again that was 19 years ago but the price then must not have jumped out at me like the 5 bill a gallon theme of nutty cult hippy country Big Sir or head so far up their rear Aspen. I'd be curious to know where the highest prices are in the lower 48, I probably would not be far off to guess somewhere in Cali forn ie. Coldfoot and Prudhoe bay may have those prices beat but that is a whole other world up there and when prices are more normal elsewhere that is about what they can be up there I believe in no mans land. Anyway interesting that the 395 corridor is hosing people and the thing is, its tourist season and its not like there are a lot of competition options when driving up that highway from what I could see. Yup, big ole Boaterhomes and various other RV's ahead and behind me at the Yosemite entrance gate and they have to get their fuel somewhere.
