Vibration Issue is BACK and WORSE after being fixed

Larger tires causing excessive exhaust regen?  Now I've heard it all.  I'm surprised they haven't blamed my window tint on anything related to the transmission yet.  Not sure why some dealers are such sticklers with it.  I understand to a degree... say if you had a supercharger installed and had it tuned, they would want you to remove those variables out if trying to troubleshoot a transmission problem.  But for simple bolt ons (ones that they offer from the factory for a HUGE $$$ markup), they should know it doesn't affect the performance nearly as much.

Haven't had the vibration issues, but I still have very hard shifting and laggy shifts between 1-2 and 2-3.  If I'm not punching the throttle, the transmission is downright unpleasant to drive, and I have to brace my body for when it shifts because of the jolt.  I have 2 years left on the powertrain warranty.  I am in between constantly going back to the dealer for troubleshooting to no avail, or just getting a custom tune done.  I would like to know though, if a tune will fix everything, or if it just fixes how it drives, and it will still leave me with the hard shifts that typically only happen on cold starts.  Once the truck is warmed up, its like the transmission "double clutches" and takes longer to shift between gears instead of just shifting.

I want to love my truck.  I like most things about it.  Hearing that 6.2L scream with my Borla Atak is wonderful.  I get so many compliments on it.  Best sounding truck exhaust I've ever heard, and I'm not even being biased.  Some people say the Corsa's sound better, but the Corsa to me sounds more like a muscle car, whereas the Borla Atak sounds more like a truck exhaust.  I want to keep modding it, but not at the expense of all the other issues I've had with it, but most notably has been the transmission sloppy shifting and clunking.

8spd? Thats most likely why. i hate the 8spd.

The Camaro guys are having the same issue with their 8sp transmission.  One would think GM would have this figured out by now since the 8sp is in another vehicle and not just in the trucks.

Yeah I specifically held off buying a 6 speed because they shifted like junk and were laggy.  The 8 speed shifts great when you are punching it.  But for daily driving its literally unbearable.  The new 10 speed better be good.  Being co-developed and already used in the Ford's I would assume GM would have the luck of the draw to get all the kinks worked out for launch.  I do like it has the ability to skip between gears, I feel like that would be more beneficial and reduce wear and tear.  But I guess time will tell.

What are you running for tires?  I only ask because mine vibrated terribly, even after the transmission "triple flush".

I pulled the Bridgestones off and put on Michelin Defenders 2 weeks ago and there is a marked improvement.  Still have a little bit of vibration but nowhere near as bad as it's been.

Still got the stock Goodyear Eagle LS with 30k miles on them.  Pretty crappy tire overall but handles well on dry pavement.  Never really had an issue with them.  I only got them rotated once.  They are due to be replaced soon, hoping to get until winter with them.

I'm worried I'm headed down this road too.  I drove several trucks on the highway at various dealerships, but the dealership I bought my truck at didn't have great access to a highway.  Annoyingly on day 2 of owning the truck I hit the highway and as soon as I crossed about 62mph the shudder started.  Granted it is slight, but noticeable.  I took it back with about 100 miles on it.  They looked at it and reproduced the issue but said GM won't let them touch tires until it gets to 500 miles.  So, once I get there I'm taking it back for tire balancing which doesn't sound like it ever helps.  Fun...

Interesting.  I remember reading a thread on vibrating trucks and later on felt some roughness at higher speeds.  I worried that the "chevy shake"  may have infected my truck.  The fact that I had found a small tire weight on my driveway gave me a glimmer of hope.  Sure enough, a balance is all I needed.  Don't let the horror stories on this forum make you think the worst.  Odds are strongly in your favor that your truck will soon cruise smoothly at highway speeds.

You’re absolutely correct, I had a shake at highway speeds with my 14, turned out the shake disappeared once I switched out the tires.

    • After I wrote that reply I went for a ride. 85 F out. So trans started at 85 F and it shifted the same as it did an hour latter at 168 F. I've never actually recorded the to cold to shift point but it is under 32 F before they start hanging on to a lower gear or leaving the converter unlocked. Both intended to heat fluid.    Yes, brake or bake. Absolutely.      Your welcome. True research ended decades ago. Field trials are still in play.    There is a thing called oxidation onset temperature. This is the heat related oxidation not the O2 exposure kind. For mineral oil that starts at 140 F. So what happens after 140 F? Each 20 F cuts fluid life in half! Does using a Full Synthetic improve that? Yes! By how much? Depends on the base oil type and a few other factors. But enough to notice. Some esters are even higher. There are even synergies between types the will raise it higher than any one component is alone.    Then there is "Hindered" oils. Antioxidant additives. Hindered Polyol Esters can sit at 500 F for years in a turbine.   When a blender brags his oil will 'take 500 F" in service he doesn't specify for how long. Water will dance on a 500 F hot plate for several seconds. @newdude put up a chart showing the relationship between fluid temperature and it's life in an automatic transmission. Here's a version of that chart for Group III based oils. These temperatures are those in the pan as observed as 'normal'. that is you drive as you do for as long as you do under what load you ask of it and whatever that temperature is this graph applies to. Flash temperatures of a few minutes isn't what his means.    Note that fluids held at a constant 240 F have a service life of only 20K miles. 220 F explains the factory exchange limit, eh? My equipment I keep under 180 F and I'm good if the cooler will hold it as low as 140 F. But that's me.
    • Im in the same boat. Carlink adapter comes tomorrow and dev account is in process. Would you he able to send the new instructions my way also? Question, do you have to change code and republish app everytime developer updates? Thanks for your assistance, truly the only thing i cant stand about my truck is the carplay limitation

    • And Google AI says......... Yes, your truck can technically handle it, but you will be right at or near its maximum limit. A 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 High Country with a 6.5-foot bed has a maximum payload capacity of approximately 1,770 pounds.Weight RealitiesLoad weight: Half a cord of dry hardwood weighs roughly 1,100 to 1,500 pounds depending on the wood type (like oak or hickory).Payload limit: Payload includes the weight of the wood, you, any passengers, and a full tank of gas.The math: If you weigh 200 pounds and have a full tank of gas, a 1,500-pound load of wood puts you right at that 1,770-pound ceiling.Safety TipsCheck the yellow and white sticker on your driver-side door jamb for your truck's exact payload number, as high-end luxury trims with extra features have slightly lower capacities than basic trucks.Expect the rear end to sag noticeably.Drive carefully, avoid sudden turns or stops, and keep speeds low if you have to travel a distance.
