Trading my 15 5.3 for 18 6.2

My lease is up on my 5.3. I'm gonna get a silver ccsb wit a 6.2. Dealer looked for a 6.2 and found a silver Red Line edition. I wasn't fond of The Whole red line thing at first, but after pondering black wheels on my truck but them not looking good with all the ltz chrome, the redline kinda grew on me, so that's what I'm getting.

I'm in similar situation. '15 DC, 5.3 4x4. Want to get into CC, 6.2 4x4. Going to buy though. I've been looking for Certified off lease vehicles, far and few between though. Almost pulled the plug an '18 100 Year Anniversary edition, just having a hard time dropping $50K on a truck that will just sit in the garage 90% of the time.

Ask the dealer if they want to buy your truck. My lease is up early March. Dealer is giving me $2500 extra for my truck than my buyout of $28500 to put toward next lease. I'm leasing the $57100 Red Line crew 6.2 for $0 down at signing, $469/month, 39 months, 15,000 miles/year. I pondered buying mine because $28,500 is a great price to buy that truck. It's a loaded LTZ with 45,000 miles on it. However the payments to buy that truck are more than the lease of this one. So...

I recently let go of my 15 5.3 DC for a 17 6.2 CC. Best thing I did. Not that i had issues with the first truck but the 6.2 is very fun to drive and gets better fuel mileage on the highway than my 5.3 did. If you want the big smile on your face every time you drive, go 6.2. Be prepared to run premium fuel tho, the 6.2 demands it.

Well I wnted a 6.2 when I got this one, but the 8 sp trans's were on a restriction. I figure by now the bugs are worked out of the 8 sp trans. I have a 91 tune and run 93 all the time on the 5.3.

This has come up before and I've gotten shit for it but I'll say it again. I own 5.3 and 6.2. Not much of a difference between the 2 if you ask me I say if you tow any then 6.2 but if not the 5.3 is great. And the 8spd sucks ass

I tow a boat a lot in the summer. I appreciate the feedback. I like my current truck, and it wasn't a quick decision, but I decided on the new truck and as time goes by I'm glad I did. I've talked to a few people lately who have 8 speeds and 5.3's and they were happy with it.

I have never, till this thread, heard anyone say there isn't much difference between the two trucks. I have had 4 trucks in this platform and completely disagree. The 6.2 is awesome. I did have issues with my '15- 8 speed but my '17 6.2, 8 speed is flawless. Greatly improved and fast as hell. There is a huge difference in the two trucks. The 6.2/8 speed shines in all categories. BUT if you don't work the truck or have much of any demand and just cruise around at the speed limit like an old man, then there is no reason to get a 6.2. You also would not notice much of a difference as ANY vehicle wouldn't matter to you as ANY vehicle can just drive around and do the speed limit. But if you enjoy driving, tow, or occasionally work the truck the 6.2 will shine, and you will never regret getting it. I was just offered a smoking deal on a 5.3 Denali CC and would not even give it a thought after owning 2 6.2's in this platform. Good luck

About 2 months ago you missed the thread where I said that. And I was pretty much told I was an idiot. It's jusdt my opinion. We have a 6.2 and a 5.3 right now both 16s and we used to have a 15 as well. But again it's just my opinion.

Well based on how you use your truck and drive you have an opinion....that doesn't make you an idiot. Its your opinion. You based it on something as it relates to you.

Apparently you are in the minority on that opinion, and the reason probably is that you do not need or dive into the potential of the 6.2. For me, I drive a little harder and do tow long distances several times a year. But still so, even local and highway driving find the 6.2/8 speed to be an excellent all around package and better suited to my driving and towing habits. Also I find getting 22 mpg easily is a very big plus in comparison. I always had to baby the 5.3 to get near that mileage and struggled to get 20-21 mpg at an even lower speed. That doesnt mean the 5.3/6 speed is bad or worse, it's just not enough for some. That would be me.

Different strokes for different folks. Just like a Duramax would be wasted on most of us because we would always be so far below its design and potential. I find the 6.2 to be that magic middle ground for me, and I enjoy driving it daily more.

I agree. But I drive my 16 reg cab like I stole it. As for the 6.2 we have. We bought it to tow. And ended up getting a dmax. Wife dailys the 6.2 now. 20ish mpg. While my reg cab gets 28ish

I had a 2005 Duramax and it was an insane truck. Drove the new one and it is quite a truck. But as I have gotten older my neck has gotten worse so no Duramax for me! Too tight. Best of luck with that Duramax, great truck!

I ran out and bought the new 2014 body style, loaded with every option available, also thought the 5.3 was plenty for me....wrong! I was passed up on the highway by an older woman driving a freaking Infinity SUV, crappy 5.3! Then I tried towing a 7K TT and it gave me maximum 4.5 mpg causing me to pull over in search for fuel approx 150 miles from start. 5.3 is a pc of donkey poop! Traded it in with only 19K miles on it for a DMax, loved the DMax but was over kill and beat me up as a daily driver so I traded that one in for my new Sierra 6.2 and WOW!!!! Amazing engine, ride and all around performance, I highly recommend the 6.2 in any half ton, promise that you won’t ever regret it.

The nice thing about the E-85 5.3 is on E-85 your within 40 HP of the 6.2. You have the option of reg gas for trips. My complaint when I bought mine was you had to buy packages I didn’t want to get that motor. Would have cost me 12K more total. I bought the Texas edition SLE had everything the SLT had less the 6.2 for 12K less. A few mods and E85 I didn’t miss the 6.2. GM needs to wise up and offer that motor on all models, like Ram with the Hemi.

You are within that stock. Rwhp on a 5.3 is about 300. 6.2 is about 350.
