Trading my 15 5.3 for 18 6.2

Couldn't the same argument be made of why buy a 5.3 when the 4.3 will do just as good for the majority of us?  The majority of the people on this forum do not tow or haul that much but will occasionally.  The trucks are used for daily commuting and most don't see a gravel road yet the majority of us (including myself) will buy the  V8 and 4x4.  I bought my configuration because that is what I wanted and that is what the 6.2 boils down to.  If that is what you want then get it and don't worry about justifying it to a bunch of people you really don't know on an internet forum.

I went from a 15 Silverado with the 5.3 to a 17 Denali Ultimate with the 6.2. I was forced into this as my 15 flooded in Harvey.. However, I am glad it did because the 6.2 is night and day better than the 5.3 I had. You may not feel the difference in the lower RPMs but once you get up there in RPMs the 6.2 has WAY more power than my 5.3 did. Just my .02 cents.

Gotta 17 Redline,CC, Standard Bed, Z71 w/6.2! I also have 10 Corvette Grand Sport w/ 6sp, LS3. The Vette is set for the road! The "GREATEST" feeling that I have ever given "myself ?" is pushing it curves. Driving the is "NOT" quite the same, but being able to "GET" down the road when I need/want to is important to me, a it doesn't hurt to be in something that "looks good" as well as slightly different than the "OTHER GUY" is part of why we get what we do, and make the mods that we make?. Mine is a "Boxer" in the back seat (It's his) garbage taking, grocery getting, "NO HAULING" (that's why the stores have delivery) Sunroof  cracked, seated seat on, "OLDIES " playing Daily Driver!  Must be getting old (61) cause when I step on the gas and the Borla Exhaust sends that sweet tune thru those Black Split Duals and you know that you are sitting on 400+ horses........ COME ON, you gotta admit it feels DAMN GOOD to have a 6.2??

You need a tune, it eliminates that weak feeling at lower rpms. 6.2 is a monster down low, that’s where it really shines and why so many people love their tunes.

The same arguments can be made for the 4.3.  It has more than enough power for the majority of 1/2 ton Sieera/Silverado owners.  You can get a speeding ticket just as easily with a V6.  Performance  in the city and on the highway is good with all three gm engines. I defend my choice of the 4.3 with similar tenacity of the 6.2 owners.  The 5.3 is often treated like a compromise between the two.  The main issue I have with the 5.3 is that it doesn't have the bragging rights that the 4.3 and 6.2 owners enjoy!

We all know nobody needs a 6.2, the 5.3 is plenty to tow more than the chassis can handle.

only purpose of the 6.2 is to make a 5500lb truck not boring to drive

It does tow ALOT better. But you are totally correct. I do feel better about spending this kind of money on a truck when I put my foot down to pass or just getting on an entrance ramp to the highway. The overall experience is just better all around and it is the power when you need it,....or should I say want it. My 5.3 was frustrating and my 6.2 is NOT boring! LOL

I've never drove the 6.2 but it must be a blast because IMO the 5.3 is pretty darn sweet when you drop the hammer in it.  This is in comparison to the last 5.3 and 350 trucks I have had and the 5.0 Ford that I drive for work.  I have yet to tow anything with my truck in the 3.5 years I have owned it but I have hauled around 1500 pounds in the bed a few times and the 5.3 performed great compared to the same loads with my last few trucks.

Oh for sure. That will be done as soon as warranty runs out. I already have the Borla cat back (dealer installed) but I don't want to tune it until the warranty is done. I would rather not deal with that headache in the event something happens!

Also, I am not really one to stomp on it from a stop (I have and it is far superior than the 5.3 for sure). I notice quite often though that when going 30, 40 or even 50, 60 mph and you stomp on it and get that extra click in the gas pedal, this engine is unbelievable!

Nice, you will never want to go back to the 5.3L after driving a 6.2L for a while. Big difference, really noticeable under a load. Pretty much identical in fuel consumption, 6.2L will be better if you go from stock to big heavy tires.

I disagree with if you drive a 5.3 you'll never go back.  I enjoy my 5.3 more then my wife's 6.2

Just left the VA Hospital in Richmond, Va, when I got on 95n I thought about what I had written about the feel of all the horses I was sitting in. So as I exited off to 64e, I had to put a little "extra" umph to the pedal. Horses, Horses, Horses!!!! Nothing against the 5.3, but I'm a "GAM" (Grown Ass Man) and I don't sit on the porch.... anymore!

but if you like the 5.3, I won't hold it against you, that leaves more premium gas for me and I ain't got nothing else to spend my $$ on....yet!

ENJOY YOUR RIDE (regardless of the horses you have or don't have?) Just stay out'a the left lane?

Hey don't forget this thread is about me and my truck   Lol.  I am kinda old (50), but still enjoy a bit of "fun" driving.  I sold my 07 TBSS that ran 12.90's with just an intake (that I made), tune, and 6 cylinder torque converter to get the '15 truck I have now.  I wanted to get the 6.2 then but the 8 speed was on restriction, so I settled for 5.3.  The 5.3 was very adequate, but there has been a few situations where I missed the TBSS and thought I wished I had a 6.2. I know this truck will not be as quick as the TBSS, but the 12.9 time slip was with the back seats out and a "race" tcm.  The TBSS would probably be a low 13 second vehicle in daily driver trim. That being said, I'm gonna drive the new truck off the lot with a lift and tires like current truck and a diablo i3 on order.  And found that Vector motorsports tunes 17 and newer tcms.  So this should be a fun truck, hopefully in the 13's and hopefully a mid 13 second slightly modded truck.

I'm over 50 and still drive the piss out of my stuff too! LOL I drive my Zo6 on the track whenever I can, and I tow it there with my 6.2! LOL You will love the upgrade.
