Yay or Nay

SO I have a 09 1500 CC. Although I'm within specs, towing our big 33ft trailer can be a chore unless conditions are perfect.  Really should be using a 3/4. Well, $$ thats still a few years away. My 09 is getting up there in kms, etc, but works well.

Well, a 08 GMC 2500 6.0 has sorta fell into my lap. Local dealer has it. Has 15k less kms than my truck, but a year older. Mines a LTZ, this is a SLE. Its a CC long box. If I got what I want for my truck, I could get into this for a few grand.

I'm torn.  Assuming its in good condition, it should work better for my needs when towing. I guess this would be a tide me over truck for the next few years until we're ready to upgrade.

Or would I be better waiting, keep what I got and tough it out? Im pretty sure I know the answer to this, but I need to hear it lol.

Tough decision but if it was me I would stick it out. The 5.3 08-13 was a great truck, last one I had had 185k miles on it when I sold it. Personally I would spend the extra for the diesel on a 2500 but thats me.

I would wait it out. I have wanted to get a 2500 ever since I got my 1500, but its paid off so I'm just keeping it. I tow a few times a year, so I just deal with the 1500. Now if I was towing everyday I would upgrade to a 2500.

I would wait it out. 15k km is not that much less and you don't know what issues you would be inheiriting. Someone got rid of it for a reason. Could be that the just upgraded, but also could be the excess ok consumption/ fowled plugs that was common in that year.

We usually make around 6 camping trips a year, give or take. Not a lot more, but its enough to warrant the need for a 2500. If the weather isnt perfect, I kinda dread towing tbh. I've taken slower back roads just to avoid open highway and more wind.  Maybe I'm paranoid lol.

Would the 6.0 be any worse than my 09 5.3?

the 6 liters are durable and don't have many problems. The problem is it is a used vehicle, so I would take it to a mechanic before buying just to make sure everything is ok.

It is hard to tell if there is an oil issue until you drive it for a while. It is my understanding that not all of them had the issue. My 07 5.3 had it really bad. I have looked at used tricks from that era and never pulled the trigger. Call me a little gun shy after all the issues I had with my 07. Much happier with my 14.

I don't know. The guy at my Chevy dealer has said that they did. He knows everything about Chevys including how many lug nuts are on a 2008 Cobalt and what plant they were made in. Maybe the 6.0 is better. Beyond the engine, there are still other unkown maintenance issues you can be inheiriting. My first 2 GM trucks had about 100k miles on them when I bought them. In the end, I wished I had saved my money and bought a new truck instead.

That 6.0L did NOT have AFM like the '07-18 1500's have.  So if it has any engine trouble, it is NOT due to the common AFM problems on the 1500's.

Believe you can get a tuner to turn off the afm. I know it can me done mechanically with new rockers and lifters I believe. Not to sure. As I have a 2500hd with 6.0 that doesn’t have it.
