I'm going to toss out a wild ass guess that supplier engineering plays a huge part in any AFM failures. Cheap parts will kill even the best design. We'll set aside the fact that we have yet to see a production engine designed from the ground up to be multi displacement.

Gen IV AFM engines now have updated De-Ac lifters, a valve cover and VLOM.  How reliable are they?

How reliable have the Gen Vs been?  The newest ones are supposed to cut out more or less than just 4 certain cylinders now too.  Get the adults in Washington to eliminate the foolish CAFE standards and AFM/DOD will quickly head for the dust bin of history.

My buddy says I am paranoid and that the engine is "supposed to work that way" when I told him I was going to get a Range AFM defeat module. I said a v8 was designed to run on 8 cylinders and that the AFM was bound to fail. 21st century EPA appeasement tech grafted onto an engine that is an updated version of a near century old idea there was really nothing wrong with.

EXACTLY.
