2018 Navi system map update

Speed limit is based off the GPS. I don't have OnStar but have built-in GPS and the speed limit works on my truck.

I called my dealership about my map in my Sierra, and they told me that the dealerships can't get map updates. That it is only available to owners through the website, so there is no way for the dealership to support a customer with a complimentary update if they wanted too. My dealership's service department said that they would do the install, because apparently the install has to be done by the dealer, for free as a courtesy for customer retention.

 

So basically I'm boned on this one. If I have a destination that is not in my GPS I'll just use the Apple Carplay and Maps, or Google maps, but I will not spend $140 for obsolete map updates. What is GM thinking this is, 1

You’re much better off with google or Apple maps. The GM navigation sucks balls. I did the update in 2016 and complained to GM customer service about the lack of places and street names. The road i live ons name was changed back in 2007 and the GM nav still has the OLD street name. Don’t waste your money of if you do, just send it to me. It’ll be the same as doing the update, giving it away.
