Painted door handles, why so expensive???

Back when I pursued painted door handles on my 14 SLT you could buy them reasonably cheap.  I ended up trading a local guy my mirror caps and handles straight across.  I then had a 16 which came with them.  Just bought a 18 SLT and started looking, they're $600 for a set on eBay.  WTMF????  What happened?

Wow! That’s crazy.

I’ve seen the illuminated door handle sets with harnesses for $600

Maybe it's just a case of the seller not actually having them and raising them price to an astronomical number.  If some idiot buys them they'll find them a set.  I see this all the time on IT gear.

Advertise with an offer to trade.  My dealer switched out my door handles, mirror caps and tow hooks from painted to chrome as an enhancement when it was on the lot. I didn't have a preference at the time but declined to pay extra for their enhancement.  This was a dealer installed package and I'm assuming they must have a bin of painted take-offs.  Maybe your local dealer has some "take-offs".

Perfect, much more reasonable, thanks!

I managed to score mirror caps, considering just leaving the handles this time around.  Mainly because I don't feel like pulling off the door panels.  Can't stand the chrome mirrors though

Your dealer is probably selling them on eBay!  Good call on the take-offs, every time I've approached my surrounding dealers about "take-off" anything that seem very irritated by even being asked about such a thing.

You don't have to remove the door panels, there is a screw inside a cap on the end of the doors near the handle. That removes them, then just use a piece of fishing line to hold the clip while you install the new one. Only takes a few minutes per door, plenty of instructions and videos out there.
