2018 SLT All Terrain cup holders question

Really dumb question here. So, I’m sorry in advance! I recently traded my ‘15 Sierra for an ‘18. Both SLT with the All Terrain package. On the ‘15 the cup holders in the console was removable and you could either place it over the shallow vs. deeper compartments. On my new ‘18 the cup holders don’t seem to be removable. Or at least I can’t get mine out. Which is odd to me since there is still a small gap under the cup holders that papers and stuff can still slip under never to be seen again. When I was cleaning my ‘15 out at the dealership, I found a $75 visa gift card under there!

 

I can’t imagine that gap still being there if the cup holders aren’t removable. If they aren’t removable then that will definitely be a black hole in my new truck.

I believe 2015 or 2016 was the last model year for the cupholders that could be moved. The cupholders in my ‘17 Sierra SLT All-Terrain don’t budge.

2016 and on are not movable.

Im going to have to put something over that slit under the cup holders then because I almost lost a piece of paper under there this morning. I caught it half way out trying to sneak its way in there.

actually the 16+ cupholder is removable just not reconfigurable (the rear bottom cubby is still there), its just no where as easy to remove as the 14-15's

I just pulled mine out.  I would say you are only going to remove that so many times before you break the tabs off. I was hoping for 9mm storage but that thing is too hard to remove. I should have put some tape across the gap on the inside when I had it out to keep stuff from sliding back in there.

That is a very useful cupholder if you are up to no good. I know a guy that had one in 2014 and it saved his bacon from the bacon, if you catch my drift.

Once the 16+ holder is out, will a 14-15 unit fit?  That secret compartment under it is way too cool.  It fits my compact .40 perfectly.
