So my ac quit blowing cold now trucks only got 74k miles , I have a 12 mouth 12k miles bumper to bumper warranty and what’s left of a 100k warranty. I’m pissed I got the truck with 68k miles ain’t even made my second payment on it. I hope the warranty covers it. And yes the compressor is spinning and so is the clutch . I had some dye put in can’t find no leaks at my local pep boys . It seems. Like the compressor is shot.whats y’all a thoughts ?

Condenser in front of radiator is a known failure part on the AC system of K2

I have been reading a lot of problems with a/c , like condenser the hoses as long as the dealership fix’s and it’s free that all that matter to me and they give me a truck to drive .

What Sierra dan said. I believe Gm fixed this by 2016. My 2018 has updated parts so hopefully I’m not in same boat in a few years. 

 

You can always ask GM to help cover all or part of cost. Some have reported success.

My condenser went out around 36k.  I called the dealer, I called GM, I filed a case against GM, filed a complaint in BBB, and filed a case with the Michigan attorney general.  All of which GM denied.  So, now they are having to deal with me and others in court.  I attached a few pics.  Burnt out the belt too when it froze up.  You can see all the rubber flung (southern vocab?) everywhere.  The failure cracked the compressor housing.

Man that’s crazy well see when I drop my truck off what they say ? I have been a gm person for a long time . I have had a lot of gm cars trucks over the years. I keep reading bad stories over this damn compressor.

It's unfortunate but it's the only issue I've had with my truck. I was hoping GM would stand behind their trucks better. I know more people have had condenser issues rather than compressors so it could very well be the condenser.

I know too many people with really high mileage on their GMs to switch brands because of this though. 30k miles later after mine failed and no other issues.

I am wondering why you had some dye put in by someone other than the mechanics at your dealership?  The great thing about a b to b warranty is not having to diagnose or repair mechanical problems.  I once took my truck in while under b to b warranty because the left front signal light wasn't working.  The solution was simple and obvious but they took my concern seriously.  They replaced the bulb and washed my truck at no charge to me.

My compressor went out on my 2014 with only about 20k miles on it.....replaced under warranty and been working fine since.....I've got two motorcycles and a jeep so don't put many miles on it....have just turned 50k on it and bought it knew over 4.5 years ago.....

I work for a place called auto plus parts the same guy is the owner of pep boys all over the place so I get good

discounts so they wanted to see it put dye in and found no leaks  I’m taking the truck to the dealer tomorrow and if the service department isn’t open then Tuesday.

I sense you are nervous about the durability here.  Not sure if this is your first gm or not but up until his a/c issue of mine, I have over 150k problem free miles on my 15 max tow 5.3.  Not one single other issue.  I've replaced all the brakes, spark plugs/wires, and change fluids regularly.  That's it.  I absolutely love my truck. 

 

I've been without air conditioning most of the summer.  Not much spare time to get it fixed lately.  Took a vacation a month ago and dropped off at the shop for balance /alignment after I installed level and new leafs.  Told them to please look into the A/C.  They had it a week and "couldn't figure it out."  They recommended the dealership.  Finally had time to stop by my dealership.  I saw they had a 19' on the lot so checked that out, then spoke to service.  Told them the deal.  They quoted me 1250.00 for new condensor.  I told my dealer if he can loan me a 2019 I'll make the service appt.  I drive a lot and have high miles so in the market for new.  I'm in my truck almost all damn day some days. I need my air conditioning back.  Don't care if summer is basically over either.  Seems this is a known issue.  Going to research it more now.  I figure I'll have to pay for it no matter what since totally out of warranty.  Oh well.  Anyway, hopefully this fixes it...  Good luck with yours and keep us updated!

Will do I have had a lot of gm vehicles camaro gto firebird s10 Buick’s so Gm vehicle stay in the family . This is still very nuts too me thought never had a ac failure.

So the update is the condenser is shot . Getting replace for free under warranty.Crack in the welds on driver side .
