I wonder why they are not showing TBN or Nitration?  If TBN was 0 they would have flagged it.

You and I have different points of reference when it comes to TBN. I expect you change at 1? I change at 50% of initial when starting point is done by the same method. NEW number is normally about 2 point higher than UOA numbers. Blenders use a different titration. So I reference the blender, take two points off and change at 50% of that adjusted number. I don't change to get maximum oil life. I change to get maximum motor life.

I understand.  I'm just wondering why they didn't post the TBN or TAN.

If I were to venture a guess? He's had multiple changes at roughly the same intervals. After a few where they did report I would guess they are comfortable that for the same operator and fluid and OCI the result will be most likely the same.

Oil Analyzers is pretty good.  Not like them to leave off information, especially information that you paid for.  Just doesn't seem right to me.  Even if it is the same, it needs to be in the report.

I agree! It's hard to even pay people to do their job and expect it gets done.

Any idea's as to why the step backward?

Given the amount of fuel burnt the normal 8 ounces in 2500 miles is not quite two ounces higher than the calculated maximum so the motor is already 'hurt' and we know why. Rings sticking. It's just a Ecotec I4 issue. And we know that the harder you lean on a motor the more oil it will use. Even a healthy one. So....what I've asked the wife to do is bit the bullet and hold her speed down to a maximum of 62 mph.

If it goes back to 8 ounces, fine. Tis what it is. IF it gets worse then we can try another 'ring soak' which brought it back last time or just replace the motor. Jasper. A heathy motor that burnt 97 gallons of fuel should land between 0.03% or 3.7 ounces on the low side to 0.05% or 6.2 ounces at worst.

There is over a 20% difference in fuel economy between 60 and 75 in this truck. Allot of load. I guess we'll see. If it will get better and if she will cooperate.

143,300 Mile Services

7/8/2021

Sugar Bears:

2015 Terrain SLE-2

Ecotec 2.4 I4

143,300 miles actual (Ending a 1,500 mile S7 cleaning cycle at 5:1)

3,300 miles this OCI

No measurable usage this OCI. The TRIAX S7 did what it was advertised to do. Clean.

4.84 quarts of COSTCO Kirkland 5W30

5 Ounces of TRIAX S7 (31:1 mix ratio)

1 Purolator PL15436 filter

This next change will be shorted to get back on even OCI's at 145,000 and the mix ratio will richen to roughly 10:1 and remain like this until I work off these cases of Kirkland or the rings give up again.

Now will it stay clean?

:dunno:
