Issues

Hi, I’m new here.  Love my truck but there are more issues than I should be having with only 22k miles.

1.  Loose leaf springs making banging noise.  This was fixed 2 months ago and it’s back again.

2.  Squeaking noise when it goes from  V4 to V8

3.  Slight vibration when driving.  Heavy and irritation when pulling a trailer.  It’s not the trailer.

4. Transmission hesitates and shifts hard with a clunk at times.

5.  CD play does not work.  I don’t really use it anyway but it should still work.

Anyone else have any of these issues?

Owned two of these new. 16 and 17 years. Close friend has had an 18 Denali for almost a year. All these are considered normal in my experience for these POS excuse for trucks. There are bandaid fixes you or the dealer can do. Just search around.

Take this list to the service department at your local GM Dealership.  All of these items will be covered under your bumper to bumper warranty.  They are not normal or acceptable, imo.  I don't experience any of these problems.

I know it's annoying but unfortunately it just a few of the common problems with these trucks..

If you're a DIY'er, here's a few things you can try:

1. Red loctite on the leafspring bolts.

2. Silicone spray on the exhaust valve down by the rear axle. It's a spring loaded valve that's supposed to help with the weird exhaust sounds in V4 mode. Since it's exposed to the elements, sometimes it needs a little lube.

3. Depending on how much it bothers you, look into a custom driveshaft. A few other folks have eliminated the vibrations by doing that. I'm doing it once I'm back in the states.

4. Look into a custom tune. I've got one from Black Bear Performance and it did WONDERS for my truck. She shifts better and runs smoother. You can also remove the flash if you need to take it in for warranty work. They'll never know.

5. I don't know what to tell you about the CD player... I've got an aftermarket Pioneer head unit in my truck that's league's better than anything Chevy offers.

Hope this helps.

1. Throw a torque wrench on the u-bolt nuts under the rear axle. I think the spec was 140 ft lbs but dont quote me on that. Look it up. Fixed the leaf slap I had.

2. I stuck my exhaust valve full open 10k miles ago. I used a drywall screw in the corner of the square on the outside. Mine squeaked since new. Annoying for sure. I’ve had zero issues with it open and I cant hear anything “wierd” the exhaust is extremely quiet.

3. My truck has some subtle shakes between 70-80 mph. I got my duratracs road force balanced and that helped alot. I dont have a driveshaft shop where I live so I havent tried to replace it yet.

4. My 8 speed clunks at low speeds when turning. It seems if the wheel is straight ahead its butter. Turn the wheel a bit and it does funny stuff. It’s still a nice transmission that tows like a beast.

5. My cd player has always worked fine. I use XM mostly.

I had to have my cd player replaced on my 15 Sierra. I was surprised when it quit working. It was replaced under the bumper to bumper warranty.

So I took my truck to the shop today with may laundry list.  Leaf spring bolts and schackles will be replaced, exhaust flap will be replaced, CD player will be replaced all under warranty.

I did not have them look at the transmission as I understand some of my issues and  ormal performance that can be adjusted via a tuner.  I’ll wait littlonuand see how it goes.

for the vibration they want me to pay for alignment and wheel balance to see if that fixes the issues.  If not it will be investigated further under warranty.  So far I am happy with what the dealership is doing about the issues.  I just hope it all gets resolved and things don’t become a recurring problem when the warranty has expired.

A tuner will void your warranty. You can not simply "reflash" it back to stock for service. There is a flash counter, it records every flash done.

It is important that you have the Service Department document your concerns about the Transmission.  If it gets worse, especially outside the warranty, it was previously documented as a problem.

#2 Squeaking Noise from V4 to V8 is the little flapper valve in the exhaust that "chirps" when it switches cylinder modes. Clamp it open and it will disappear.

Some have had luck with dealer replacing under warranty.

#3 Vibration.... well...… just a nature of the beast with K2.

#4 Transmission hesitation and clunky, hard shifts.... well, also nature of the beast with K2.

#5 CD player not working. Take it to the dealer for repair

UPDATE:

Leaf springs, U-bolts and Shackles were replace.  Rear end is quiet now.

Exhaust replaced, no more squeak

CD player replaced, works like a charm

The vibration was attempted to be fixed by balancing and alignment.  It didn't work.  its still vibrates when driving.

so, I took it back for the vibrations, and they ran a peco test.  they say its the tires, and tried to sell me different tires (they are stock).  I said , no and also asked for a refund on the balance and alignment.  I guess if it gets any worse it will go back in.
