LED License Plate Bulbs causing error code

Recommended Posts

I installed a set of white 194 LED license plate bulbs purchased from V-Leds.com and on my way for an oil change the check engine light came on. The dealer checked the code and the cause was the plate bulbs. They were also causing some weird communication error codes and my steering wheel audio controls stopped working. The dealer cleared all the codes and everything is functioning as it should. I know these bulbs are monitored by the DTM checking loop resistance, but I do not want to do any wiring changes or add in load resistors. I just want bulbs that will work. Does anyone know of any quality brands of LED bulbs which match the correct resistance required to prevent the code from happening? If I can't find a bulb that will work I will just put the stock bulbs back in. I had these bulbs in for roughly 4 months with no issues before the error code even appeared.

There should be references in there as to what LED bulbs will replace the factory ones if I remember correctly. Make a coffee and enjoy the read.

This is what I am using with absolutely zero complaints! They look identical to the expensive alternatives, and have cause no codes, no lights, and still function the same as the day I installed them. I also have an Amazon alternative for the reverse lights if you want? I think I paid 5.00 per bulb vs the 40 per bulb others charge.

I’ve had these in my ‘17 Sierra for the license plate bulbs and the reverse lamps since March of 2017. No issues thus far.
