Has anyone in a non AT4 had this issue or has it only been happening on the AT4

I had the same thing in my Silverado. Went to the dealer said it’s an update. It happened to Equinox’s as well.

I just had the same thing happen in a 2019 Sierra Denali.  Fortunately, it was while stopped at a traffic light.  Power assist was gone or very weak for 5 minutes.   Service Brake Assist message + Engine light on until next day.  Got notified of an anti-lock system failure too.  If this had happened while in the stop n go of freeway traffic, it could have been bad.

The software controlling the braking subsystem was reprogrammed.  Hopefully, this fixes the problem.

This happened on my Denali a few months ago.  Check engine light came on for a few hours, but haven't had any problems with that since.  Hopefully they figure out the problem, and get a recall soon.

Power assisted brakes failed in the drive-thru this morning, almost rear ended the guy in front of me. Basically power brakes became manual brakes. Drove into work and called the dealer. After sitting off for 30 minutes I drove to the dealer and the brakes seemed to work properly. Check engine light remained on. Dealer found a bulletin, but the solution was noted as they don't have one. Great to know my brakes could become manual brakes at any minute. 1300 miles on the odometer.

I purchased a 2019 Silverado High Country. Great truck but the samething happened to me when I was pulling out of a gas station.  I lost the power assist brakes and had difficulty coming to a complete stop.  The same warnings lights came up.  I took it to my Chevy dealership and they found the Service Brake Assist Message with the correction release update for the Brake System Control Module calibrations.  This was with 759 miles on my new truck.  The truck now has 850 miles and no further problems yet.  My wife will not let me drive the truck with my family in the vehicle until GM can for sure claim the problem has been solved with reassurance.  I have had a wide range of vehicles and understand recalls or issues that need to be addressed but nothing like losing the power assist brakes.  Under these conditions I would have difficulty coming to a complete stop at high speeds.  Most of the posts that are under this classification seem to have the problem occur with low speeds which is a little reassuring.  If GM is aware of this problem, why is not every vehicle updated prior to leaving the showroom floors on the trucks that are already built from the factory.  Once again, there should not be any guessing when it comes to safety with brakes and should take the precautions.

They have build power brakes and automatic transmissions for decades if not even for a century by now.

Now, with all this tech what comes with the trucks, they can't get it right anymore.

What happened?

Failing brakes, clunky trannies?

Really?

But then, I don't blame them. For most of their customers it's more important to link the phone to the truck and be able to open the fridge door from 5 miles away.

This literally just happened to me about an hour ago in my Trail Boss. I was at a stop light and I started hearing a loud clicking sound near my foot on the brake. It stopped when I released the pedal to take off for the green light. The warning lights for brake system failure, service ESC, traction control off, and service trailer brake system came on. As the car in front of me started to turn right I couldn’t stop without standing on the brake and that didn’t work well. I tapped the back and chipped the bumper. It didn’t do anything to them. I was trying to turn in as well because the lights came on. Had to get towed to the dealer. I’m so pissed that GM would let some crap like this go under the radar. This is beyond negligent if they are aware of this issue. Brakes are the most important safety system on a vehicle. This situation is going to end up really bad for someone and almost did for me. Luckily I keep an extremely safe distance from cars in front of me and wasn’t going at high speed yet. Hey GM, maybe you should keep all those employees you’re putting out of jobs and get them to help fix problems like BRAKES!

If it makes you feel better I have not had any further issues with my brakes, at 3800 miles now.

I too just had to get my 2019 Sierra 1500 Denali Pickup flat bedded in for the same issue! 8400 miles. Warning light came on and brakes went manual while driving in residential traffic at about 35 mph. So fortunate we didn't get in an accident! To add insult to injury, our vehicle page still says "there are no recalls for this vehicle". When I took it in to the dealership Service Department, they told me there were approximately 8 recalls on their file. What gives GM and OnStar! This supports my decision to NOT renew Onstar when my 3 month trial expired, I don't have much confidence in the information I'm getting on my vehicle page...

We've always been a GM family, purchasing Yukon's, Escalades and Denali Pickups since 2005, but since the last 2, I've purchased 2 brand new Denali's, the 2015 with the 8 speed transmission, and now the 2019 with the 10 speed. Both have been in the shop far too often for recalls (and of course no price incentives or motivation to continue buying new, that in itself is sad). We really regretted the 2015 and traded it in on the 2019. Fool me twice, shame on me I guess...

Debating whether to try a different manufacturer for our next trucks, hoping to get some incentive not to!

Hi, I am also having an issue with my brakes, 2900 miles and the display tells me that I only have 44% of the front brakes left and 62% of the rear brakes. Does mean I am going to also have to a brake job with ever oil change? Anyone else experiencing this?

I had the brake message and software refresh, but now I have to exert greater effort to slow and stop truck... definitely eliminated the message but now not a good brake feel. 6600 miles..

I have also had this issue...  Bought my 2019 Silverado LTZ with 30 miles on it..  Drove it home and that night and - SERVICE BRAKE ASSIST..  And a bunch of other alerts....   Brakes went soft and could stop but with a lot of pressure...   had to drive to the dealership very slowly and carefully. They informed me they would have to replace the master cylinder assembly....  Took a week, and got it done...  it seemed to be okay except for the same issue listed above,  I now have driven it 1900 miles and my truck is telling me that my front pads are down to 70% and rear 80%.  At this rate I will need to replace my brakes before my first oil change.  So I made another appointment to take it in to have the braking system and brakes checked..  They looked at my brakes and told me that the brakes are barely been worn..  So the system in my truck is inaccurate..  The Chevy service manager, made it seem like its not a big deal, and to have it checked again in a few months when I do my first oil change..  I called GM and informed them of al this info and they made a case..  Hopefully they can get all this figured out..  As stated above,  You spend $60,000 everything should be 100% working and at least known and fixable....

My brake pedal starting clicking and strobing when stopped in Traffic ,a message says issue with antilock brake system. I guess it’s most likely same issue as all of you Guys

heading to dealer tomorrow morning

What was the fix? Only a software update or parts to be changed?

Posted

Dealer did two updates, one for the ABS issue and one for the break pad life issue. After the updates where done a new issue popped up which is electrical break assist  while truck still in garage. They are running another update.

    • That makes sense, and I think you are describing the real product problem. Capturing data is the easy part. If the owner or technician has to manually dig through five minutes of millisecond-level logs, the product has already failed. The device would be at the ECM harness, not at the OBD port, so I agree that data retrieval and event marking need to be thought through carefully. The way I am thinking about the architecture is: The recorder itself should not depend on a phone, app, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or cloud connection to capture the event. It should always keep a local rolling buffer and lock the event locally. A button, phone app, or small cabin device would only act as an event marker. If the driver feels a stumble and presses the button 10–30 seconds later, the pre-buffer has to already contain the useful data. For data retrieval, the practical options would be a sealed service USB lead, Wi-Fi download, or a phone/cabin companion device. I would not expect the owner to remove the ECM-side module or work with raw files directly. The cloud or AI side would be for interpretation, not for capturing the event. The truck may have no connection when the issue happens, so the evidence has to be saved locally first. After that, cloud processing could help decode the data, compare it against baselines, and generate a readable report. For the first version, I would keep the automatic triggers conservative and objective: driver event marker bus-off error passive voltage drop / brownout device reset FIFO or queue overflow a normally periodic message disappearing side-to-side communication mismatch, if the topology supports that For “learning normal,” I agree with your point, but I would not want to overclaim it as automatic root-cause diagnosis at first. A realistic first step would be learned baseline comparison for that specific vehicle and operating condition. For example, a value would only be compared against similar conditions: RPM range load / MAP throttle position gear / vehicle speed coolant and oil temperature battery voltage AFM/DFM state, if decoded and validated Then the report could flag things like: this periodic message disappeared compared with its normal timing this value deviated from this vehicle’s normal range under similar conditions the same abnormal pattern repeated after the same type of event the anomaly occurred together with voltage, oil-pressure, misfire, or communication changes But I would still call that “abnormal pattern detected,” not “replace this part,” unless there is enough validated repair data behind it. So the intended product would not be “here is a huge log.” It would need to be an event package: what triggered the capture how much pre/post data was preserved what changed before and after the event whether the device itself reset, overflowed, or saw a bus error selected graphs around the event raw data only as supporting evidence From your perspective, what would make this kind of report useful instead of just another datalog? For example: What are the top 5 parameters or events you would want highlighted first? Would you trust a learned baseline for that specific vehicle, or would you prefer fixed thresholds? How much false-positive flagging would be acceptable before you stopped looking at the reports? What would a one-page report need to show for an independent shop to take it seriously? For misfire, AFM/DFM, oil pressure, or U-code complaints, what would you want the tool to flag automatically?
