Automatic braking may not be working?

SS502 - let me know what the dealership says about why the brake assist is not working. I really want to know if mine are working. Like you, I’ve tested by nearly rear ending a car on purpose and nothing happened. I do get the orange car on the dash when I get close and only got the red warning when a car came across in front of me one time but I don’t think the brakes came on. But not sure; I was distracted by the beeping!  Smile.

Ftwhite - maybe I can make something that looks more like the rear end of a car but would think the brakes should come on when a motorcycle or maybe even a deer is about to make contact with the front of my pickup?  Maybe my dealer has a way to test it. I will ask at my next visit in February.

Thanks guys

Will do! For what it’s worth, I will never trust this system but hopefully if needed it will someday work ?

Okay took it in today and basically told me it works as it should. They drove it behind another dealership vehicle and we were doing about 45 mph. They had the road to themselves and had those old style walki-talki things. They tested it two ways, one with the lead car stopping fairly fast and I saw the (from passengers seat) red lights on windshield and he told me the seat vibrates (took his word for it) and the warning chimes sounded. Then he did a different scenario where he accelerated and got really close and same things happened. All I can say is I must be a very cautious driver because I don’t drive the way he did. I asked why I could get within a foot of another car (when I was doing my testing) and he said it knows if you’re going about the same speed and won’t work other than turning the green car to yellow on the dash. As I said, I will never trust it to do my job but I guess if I’m caught in the situation he did it will work. I was surprised they let me go along but they did.

Thanks for the reply. Maybe mine will work if needed. I assume the brakes worked too?  I’ve approached some cars at red lights pretty close and pretty fast but nothing happens. Maybe the brakes will apply before I hit someone. I hope I never need it!

He did not wait for the brakes but by the way it felt from the passenger seat, the brakes were somehow stronger but I have no idea how aggressively he applied them. He flat told me that he was not about to wreck my truck and the other car just to see if they actually engaged but with the red lights, seat vibrating and beeps I have to assume the system is at least seeing and responding. Personally, I’m 58 and have never rear ended anyone so I’m just going to keep driving the way I always have...IF for some reason they engage and save my butt...well I’ll be happy I have that system ?

Mine triggers on side streets where you drive slightly in the area of parked cars oncoming traffic and are approaching a parked vehicle (slightly offset). Other than that it scenario the system is pretty hard to trick.

Here is some more info, and the RPO code on my truck was UHY if people are curious:

Not sure how far you want to push testing given this statment:

"The feature may even help avoid the collision “at very low speeds”, according to GM"
