Hey guys just curious, i was sniffing around the dealer this morning and noticed every 19 on thelot had 3.23 gears, even the AT4, why? Is there a option anymore?  Or are these just standard options, i would think for any decent towing you need 3.42's

I noticed it's not even an option to change them through the factory....Not sure what the reasoning is though.

Ain’t there only 2 rear end options for all trucks ? 3:42 and 3:23 ? And maybe 3:08?

Inthe ford you can get 3:15 , 3:31 , 3:55 and 3:73. Just saying nice to have options.

Not according to the build site...There's no option to select different gears.

Has anyone gotten the tow rating on the 19's then?
"6.2-liter V8 engine can tow a maximum 12,500 pounds "

323 is pretty much the standard rear gear. I think the 342 rear gear is special to the max tow trucks. With the 8 and 10 speed trans they have more aggresive gearing in the trans vs the old 6 speed. Less rear gear is needed to get things moving.

Meh.. Ram has 3.92's available and their 8 speed  with a deeper first gear (4.71) than the GM 8 speed ( it's 4.56) and basically matching the GM/Ford collaboration 10 speeds 4.70 first gear.  Ford offers 3.73's behind the same 10 speed GM uses... and 4.10's when rolling 35's on the Raptor.  GM is just afraid of adding rear axle ratio... it's not like they are running away with mileage points either because cruising a N/A V8 trying to run on one cylinder at a time is so cool at 1400 rpm lol.

Oh i agree with you. Was just explainging the question asked. Gm should provide more but they don't and my post is their reason. 8/10 speed with 323 is supposedly equal to the old 342 and 342 equal to the old 373. Disclaimer, i did none of my own research or math. Just passing on info from others who have done the research.

My 16 5.3 8 speed came with 3.42s. No reason to downgrade go 3.23 other than mpg increases.

I could be wrong but if it has 342 with 8 speed it is a max tow. Thats the same now for the 2019 too.

Mine isn’t a NHT max tow. Just an all terrain with 8 speed and 3.42s. So they can’t try the bs about it not being optimized for a lower gear ratio.

I had to go look. I did not realize the 18 and older 5.3 8 spd got 342. I have only looked at the 6.2 the last few years. I just assumed all the 8 spd trucks were 323 standard. Learn something everyday.
