Is 6.2 worth $3700 extra?

Recently went from an ‘06 LT 5.3 to ‘18 LTZ 6.2, also drive a ‘17 LT 5.3. I have put 7000 km on the 6.2 and have no regrets. If you like access to power with the push of a pedal, the 6.2 will not disappoint. It’s a monster. Also as others have said my experience has been better mpg but am running premium fuel. I figure even from empty it’s not even $10 more to fill, worth it for the peace of mind. The owners manual has some dire warnings, true or not, worth it for the peace of mind on a $70k (canadian$) investment imo

The 6.2 L86 is 11.5:1 compression ratio. Guys who buy it and run regular or midgrade are morons. The ecu will pull timing like crazy.

Is it worth it for $3700? Put it in these terms OP: is 18% more hp and 20% more torque worth 9% more in cost to you? To me, it's a no-brainer.

I am looking at two trucks that are virtually identical except one has the 5.3 with the 8-speed tranny for $42k and the other has the 6.2 with the 8 speed tranny for $45,700.

There shouldn't be that much of a price difference if they both have all the same options unless they're discounting the 5.3 more, the MSRP for 6.2 upgrade is $2495. That being said I LOVE my 6.2!!!!! There is no comparison in typical driving performance to me, don't have to race the engine to accelerate hard. This is more fun to drive than my Hemi was, and the fuel mileage has really surprised me I've been getting 16 in town and 20 on the highway.

I’ve also ran 89 in mine since day one. Going to pick up my truck with a brand new engine in it tomorrow. Glad it’s a 15 with only 69k miles on it. I’ll tell you who the morons are! Anyone that will buy these newer trucks with a 36k mile Powertrain warranty and not buy an extended. $9-12k for a 6.2 engine and labor would hurt!!!!

My boss runs regular in his Yukon XL Denali, no way I'm not running premium in my truck! I'm too OCD about engine noise and in my brain it's pinging on non premium gas (even if it's only in my head). :D

I never heard any noises at all. Matter of fact a coworker said my engine was a lot quieter than his. He runs premium gas all the time, me mid grade. This is outside both trucks at idle. His was louder than mine. When mine broke a valve spring and trashed the engine, I told him that I wished my engine would have been louder! [emoji23] never had any pinging or any valve train noise. Matter of fact the engine was the only thing I had faith in. That of course after a tc replacement and a second tc replacement along with a rebuild. That’s why you 16 and up guys don’t have but a 36k mile warranty. GM lost a butt load of money on their crappy 8spd trannies and afm crap! Now they’re making a ten speed tranny with a 36k mile Powertrain warranty? I’ll pass.

Surprisingly enough mine was purchased through the company I work for and came with a 5year/100K mile fleet purchase powertrain warranty. 36K mile warranty is ridiculous! My 2014 Ram 5.7 had to have lifters and cam replaced at 75K miles, it's sad nobody can built a bullet proof engine anymore.

I have had several 5.3 trucks. On my second 6.2. It is an awesome motor with no downside. Very rare in life. Fuel mileage is better and power make the truck fun and enjoyable. The 5.3 gets everything done, but its frustrating, and dead after 1st gear. It lugs. In my other corvette world there are 3 owners. The base corvette which is a nice car. The Grandsport, same motor, better suspension and body panels, but same motor. Then the mack daddy supercharged Zo6. I have seen several guys turn in the Zo6 after scaring themselves and finding it a crazy car. BUT I have never seen a 6.2 owner say it's no big deal I would go back to a 5.3?? Its the 5.3 guys who say they don't need anymore than the 5.3 and it's just fine. The 6.2 is worth every penny....and premium! Which unbelievably is a deal breaker for many? 60K for a truck? I think premium is the least of my expenses for the fun pedal and wonderful towing.

True, 6.0 is a great engine.

Yes I agree but they also don’t have the torque curve of the 6.2, which is awesome. I don’t want to have to redline my truck to pull a 9,000lb travel trailer up a medium grade. I guess I’m going diesel if I can get some kind of incentives. I have a 2015 nht gmc slt 4x4 for sell with a brand new 6.2 engine and trans rebuilt about 5k miles ago. Any takers? A little over 69k miles with a 100k drivetrain warranty. Who wants to jump on that?

6.2L is a $2495 MSRP option, so obviously the truck has other stuff. How EXACTLY is the truck optioned?

6.2L is clearly the better motor and has better resale.

This shouldn't even be a question.  I would have payed $3700 if I could have gotten one on my regular cab
