Is 6.2 worth $3700 extra?

Uhhhh....... ZR1?

You couldn't understand the point being made without splitting hairs? Ok there is the base model, the base model with the Z51 package, the grand sport, the grandsport with the Zo7 package, the Zo6, the Zo6 with the Zo7 package, the Zo6 with stage 1 aero package, Zo6 with the stage 2 aero package, the Zo6 with the stage 3 aero package, then we have all the trim levels, then we have the new production of the ZR1 and the ZR1 with the track package. I have owned all of them excluding the new ZR1. What point would that make?

The point was most manufactures offer 3 trim levels and usually 1-3 engine choices for everyones needs was the point. In the corvette world some have found the "Zo6" and the "ZR1" to be too much for their safety and skill level. I haven't seen anyone buy a 6.2 and say this is too much power for me I need a 5.3. The 6.2 is a perfect match for this weight truck and improves the driving experience everyday. That was the only point.

Buddy, you are much better off running E85 in your 5.3L  More alcohol, not less!  The 5.3 gains substantial power and torque on E85.  Running a higher octane gasoline will really only help at WOT or when towing.  The computer won't have to pull as much timing.  E85 has an octane rating of 100 - 110 depending on the exact alcohol content.

without even looking at your profile I knew you were either from Illinois, Iowa or Nebraska...because only a strong supporter of corn farming would say what you said about e85! ha! :)

I'm good with real gas...but to each their own...

Will never go back to a 5.3  love the 6.2.  Have company truck with the 5.3 and hate driving it.

I’m from Texas. I ran E-85 with a tune. My Texas Edition truck cost 12K less than the nearest 6.2 equip truck. Usually the 6.2 guys had lifts and over sized tires. I had no trouble showing them my tail lights. I also had fun with my brother and nephews new Hemi.

Yep...I agree with you...a tune is a game changer...and is in the category of comparing apples to oranges.

Actually, I am totally against using food stocks to make fuel.  Make it out of waste bio mass and I'm good with it.   However, I have no control over that and E85 isn't going anywhere.

Ran it all the time in my 2014 1500 5.3L.  Tried several tanks of E10 93 octane (no non-ethanol fuel available near me).  Zero improvement over E10 87 octane if I wasn't towing.

Ran it all the time in my 2017 2500HD 6.0L.  GM doesn't rate the 6.0 for more power or torque when using E85 but the truck started better and idled more smoothly compared to E10 87 octane.  My results with E10 93 in the 2500 were the same as in the 1500.  No change unless towing.  The 6.2L is not E85 compatible.

Really? E-85 and tune got me 6.2 power. Also gave me choices. On trips I ran reg gas. The same truck still goes for the low 30s. I got E-85 for cheaper than reg gas, let alone premium gas that the 6.2 requires. A little creativity means choices. People would be shocked at the packages GM offers and the savings. You usually can’t get the 6.2, they force you to buy equipment most people could care less about.

I must add if you’re a person who keeps his ride for a long time, purchase price shouldn’t be as big as an issue. Buy what you want. I’m every two, three years. I buy deals.

I admit that I didn't read anyone else's replies, so I'm sorry if any of this has been said.

1) That seems like a high price to be paying for either truck. I bought my 2017 SLT with 6.2L new for $38,500 from Hiley GMC in Texas. I live in Southern California, so I just had it shipped over here for $700.

2) The 5.3 is plenty for just normal driving and light towing.

3) Are you planning on racing this thing? What are your goals? I got the 6.2L and added a supercharger because I was at the right point in my life to be able to do that. Previously, I had a 2006 5.3L with a supercharger and to be honest, I don't know if this 6.2L with SC feels any better.

4) If I had gotten a 5.3 and added the SC, I bet I would have been just as happy as I am with the 6.2L SC.

I think a lot of the complaints about the 5.3 not being enjoyable to drive are a result of tuning, not lack of power.  Of course the truck is not accelerating strongly, when the stock tune has caused it to shift early, and drop to 1,000 RPM.

That said, I understand a lot of buyers are not interested in an aftermarket tune, so the 6.2L is a great way to get the feel they are looking for.

Aftermarket tuned 5.3 will not feel like a 6.2 lol.

O gosh, there are posting on the web site E-85 tune 5.3 trucks running times in the 1/4 mile quicker than the 6.2. Very easy to research.

Non of them feeeel as good as my unencumbered 600 HP Chevy truck. I like to help through (my experience) fellow enthusiast to get that feeeling the cheapest way possible. If they desire. Or they could just throw money at it.
