Shifting RPM has nothing to do with capable HP.

It should.  If it doesn't you're doing it wrong.

Simple bolt ons equals 500 HP hummmmm.

Yup.  Monster of an engine that responds very well to mods.

Lol wow

Hey lets just shove in 50lbs of boost and shift at 2k rpm to meet our target hp. I swear it’s safer.

So every time you shift your reaching for max HP? Even ifs it’s not called for? Probably why mines still going eight years after modifying. Your just becoming ridiculous. Have a good day.

What on earth are you talking about?

when my foot is on the floor yes I’m shifting at max rpm, and yes I want max hp.

Who on earth does not want max hp at WOT?? If you want to shift at 4500rpm dont put your foot on the floor, it’s pretty simple.

I am looking at two trucks that are virtually identical except one has the 5.3 with the 8-speed tranny for $42k and the other has the 6.2 with the 8 speed tranny for $45,700.  I have never owned a 6.2 so I am wondering is the bigger motor worth the extra money?  The truck will get driven a minimum of 100 miles daily about half stop and go and half interstate miles.  Which will be better on gas in this condition?  Any and all opinions are appreciated!

Really just here for the comments :lurk: lol everytime someone rehashes this 6.2 vs 5.3 debate it gets silly.

To the OP, no one on a forum can tell you if the price difference is worth it for you.  We can only give our personal opinion.  You have to make that decision for yourself.  As far as my opinion goes, for me the price difference wouldn't be worth it.  However, I own 2 other cars that are made to go fast, and don't need the 6.2.  No one can argue that the 6.2 is superior to the 5.3, so if you feel like you would regret not getting the bigger engine, then get the 6.2.  Also if you are thinking about a lift and oversized tires and wheels, then go with the 6.2.  As far as gas mileage goes they are about the same.  My brother has a 16' with a 6.2 and gets 2 mpg less than I do with the 5.3, which is in line with every published mileage comparison.  His truck is completely stock, my truck has a cold air intake, exhaust, the lower air dam removed, and afm turned off, so not sure how that effects my mileage.  That mileage difference was hand calculated on the same route when we both went to the Chicago suburbs for a wedding. Hope that gives you a real world comparison.  Best of luck with your decision! Hope you get that new truck soon, would make a great Christmas gift for yourself

If I just drove a 5.3 I would be happy with that. But after driving a 6.2 I can never go back. The extra get up and go the 6.2 has and the smile it puts on your face is irreplaceable. Except for more hp and tq like a Duramax ;-)

I actually raced a new duramax in my 6.2

It was a stoplight with 6 lanes and an exit about 1000ft away. Neither of us were in the exit lane and both of us launched it to get ahead of everybody else. I was like a bus length ahead of him. He launched it hard too. I heard him spool it up while still stopped.

Unloaded the 6.2 has the edge. But hook up a trailer and the Duramax wins.

Don't get me wrong. LOVE the 6.2. If I won the lottery would own the 6.2 and 6.6!

It would take quite a bit of weight for duramax to be faster, just guessing that like 8k lbs is the break even point. It also probably feels a lot better and more effortless in the duramax. Duramax would last a helluva lot longer and get better mileage with a trailer. Butttt.......Towing 8k lbs in a 6.2 @ WOT may feel like your punishing your truck, but it sure moves.

I just pulled my 3500 lb 7x14 enclosed trailer from 1000' elevation to 7000'. 6.2 pulled great but when wanting to pass on a hill at 6000' there were some 5600rpm moments. Lets just say I enjoy the 3k - 4k rpm sound vs the screaming 5k+.

The 8.5 MPG on 93 octane leaves much to be desired.

But I like the half ton ride, less emissions BS to go wrong, no DEF or DPF.  And of course the 40 - 50k price tag vs the 70k Duramax.

The 8 speed is a great towing transmission. Especially coming from a 4 speed. The gear spacing in the 8 is just right

I need an explanation.  It looks to me like all of the rebates are via GM Financial, none by the dealer.  Is that correct?  If so, how much do you think I could expect the dealer to knock off on this truck?  They offered me $38500 for my Tahoe where as Laura GMC only offered me $33500, but I still think that is a little low.  Am I stretching to think I can get them to $4000 or $4500 difference if I use the Costco rebate?

On a '18, Costco rebate is worth $500.  No more, no less.  As for trade-in, simple fact is you should sell outright.

This about sums it up. The 5.3 today is by far much better than any past 5.3. Does it all well. I had a '14 and '15. I am into my second 6.2 now. Recently test drove an 18' 5.3, 8- speed w/ 3.42 gears Sierra crew cab. Rode much better than past trucks, definitely improved the ride. I was expecting it to be on par or close to my 6.2 because of the 3.42's and 8 speed.? I was wrong.  I drove my truck to the dealer, did the test drive...(over an hour)....then got back in my truck. Bottom line I was very convinced I couldn't go back to the 5.3. The 6.2 is awesome and ruins you as it becomes your normal...which is great. At least once a week when I am getting on it, I think to myself, something this big and heavy shouldn't being able to or going this fast!!!!

Can  anyone help me with this?  Am I right in thinking that all of the current incentives are GM incentives, and no dealer incentives?  I'm trying to figure out how much I can get the dealer to also kick in and get this price down a bit.
