Is 6.2 worth $3700 extra?

I think the 5.3 vs the 6.2 is all personal preference, just like the color you pick, the ride height or the wheels you put on it. There are plenty of people who are going to give their opinion on all of it, go with what makes you happy and you can afford! Personally I'd take the 6.2 though! hahaha.

It’s is not like that at all. Nobody prefers the 5.3, they just prefer the cost of the 5.3.

nobody wants less power, it’s like saying some prefer a lower quality TV.

The only thing to debate about 6.2 vs 5.3, is if the 6.2 is worth the extra money (yes that includes the premium fuel in the 6.2, because that’s just money as well)

This statement sounds right but it really is not, imo. It is the bigger is better argument. The TV analogy is what I faced the other day when choosing between a 55" TV or a 65". "Quality" had nothing to do with my decision. The 55" was already bigger than we needed in our smaller bedroom but the price was great! It lacked in nothing compared to the 65". I understand the preference for many to buy the largest engine (or screen) available. All three available engines are good choices and meet varying preferences. When I purchased my new '15, I was fortunate to be in a position to not finance. I was very particular and looked for quite awhile for the right truck. I wanted the 4.3 because it was more powerful than almost all of my previous trucks and this engine would meet or exceed my needs. The fact that two larger engines were available was/is nice but doesn't make me think my truck lacks quality. The cost and footprint differences between all three are relatively small but are considerations. However, I believe all three are built equally well!

I have to agree with the last post. When I bought my truck the nearest 6.2 was 12K more because of incentives with my Texas Edition. I actually was going to buy a leftover Denali.

Reasons why somebody might prefer a 55” TV over 65”

-its in the bedroom, too much light

-wall space not large enough

-room too small and looks ridiculous

Reasons why somebody would prefer a 5.3 or 4.3

-cost

There are no other downsides to the 6.2.

You’re trying to relate size to quality, when I’m not talking about size specifically. I’m simply talking about hp. Pretend we are discussing the 5.3 vs 5.3 thats got fully forged internals and makes the same power as the 6.2.

Not to mention, the 6.2 does have a forged crank and rods. I think it’s pretty obvious the 6.2 costs GM considerably more to build.

I’m really not saying the 5.3 or 4.3 is a bad motor. My last truck was a 1997 tahoe with a 5.7, I drove it to the ground and bought my 6.2. If I still had my tahoe, I’d be extremely jealous of an l83.

On the forum = 5.3 sucks

In the real world = 5.3 is great

Cost is a factor and may not just be 3700$. Last week I posted where SLTs were selling for 34K, 14,000$ off. And they still are. That’s before final negotiations. You can buy a real nice performance vehicle with the difference.

The cost factor is NOT just getting the 6.2 for the price increase, it’s getting the 6.2 as well as a lot of premium upgrades. Can’t afford it or don’t want to pay for the upgrades in order to have the 6.2 then move on and settle for less trim options and motor. Over all, down playing the 6.2 in order to mask any ones cost preference is irrelevant, 6.2 and premium options is very thought after and a cost effective choice but only if you can afford it.

The whole truck buying experience is based on options. There are people who don't want leather, a crew cab, a lift, 22" wheels, a diesel or a 6.2.

There are plenty of people buying the smaller engine options for work related scenarios or people who can't justify the 6.2 when a 5.3 works just fine. Not everyone wants the same configuration as you regardless of price. I've had 4 of the 5.3 options and didn't buy a 6.2 because I wasn't planning on towing and seriously didn't care. It's what makes someone happy at the end of the day. Adding on $2500 more for the 6.2 isn't going to make or break many people serious about a $50k truck. Try coming from a 4 cylinder car to a 5.3 V8, do you think that's enough for most people? You statement just doesn't apply.. Get what you want people..

BTW the TV analogy doesn't work well. There are $500 65" TV's and $5000 65" screens that both do 4k etc. The difference between an Samsung \ LG and the local Walmart brand is huge! hahaha The difference between a 6.2 and a 5.3 is 70 plus HP most people will never USE. Both work great... but unless you are hauling, racing the guy next to you to the red light a mile down the road only lasts so long. hahahaha. Buy a sports car!

And based on the comment from OP, yes he is.

There shouldn’t really be a debate on which one is better, it’s personal preference. You may get into a truck thinking towing hauling more smiles per miles etc and want the most you can get OR just need a truck to haul the family or some outdoor gear. Best thing anyone can do is test drive and go from there. I’ve got an enormous amount of experience on all these trucks and after owning the 6.2 I’ll never go back, just my personal honest opinion based on owning them all.

Never met a 5.3 owner that didn’t wish he had a 6.2 especially after adding bigger heavier tires. Good luck to all, Merry Christmas

Yes, Merry Christmas! I bought the 2018 Sierra SLT 6.2 because I like even numbers and as weird as that is, odd numbers just seem to bother me. Soooo the 2018 has 6.2L which is 378CI producing 420HP and 460TQ running through the 8 speed transmission...was not even a choice for me.

$2695 is the cost of the 6.2

Not $3700.

But the base price is an LTZ not an LT So it ends up being even more than that in the long run

This time around for me the 6.2 wasn't worth it. Last 8 years I had a Blackbear tuned 6.2 in a Sierra Denali and a Yukon Denali. Got a 16 All Terrain now. August 2019 my 5.3 will be getting the tune when my warranty is gone, can't wait, 4 banger mode SUCKS!!! Sure, I miss the power when I want to step on it, but as a guy that just hauled an ATV or stuff for around the house, I don't miss it that much, I sure as hell don't miss it at the pump. Quite frankly I miss the AWD more than anything. Premium seems to be close to 30% more, I'm not a millionaire, trying to get there, trying to build a business and redo a house. Hopefully in a few years if things go good I can buy that CTS-V and get that 6.2 again...e39 M5 is going to be hard to pass over for that CTS-V, ain't always about all the speed. 6.2 is bad ass, if your finances allow don't hesitate!!!!
