Will GMT800 pickups become a classic gem in the future?

I've been looking at American classic cars in the 60s and they have high appreciated value as of today. Of course people back then didn't predict what the 21st century would bring so they probably either sold their 60s car to a new owner and God knows what that 2nd owner did or trade it in for a new car during that era. Many people who found old, original classic Chevrolet like the 64 Impala for example, would restore it nicely and have it appraised at $50,000 or more. With that being said, do y'all think that in the future, will a 1999-2006 Silverado truck be worth alot of money if original or restored?

I would say the trucks with an 8.1 are certainly going to hold their value and be revered as they age.

Not sure, only time will tell.  For the most part these trucks are at the point where they are on the edge of still being mechanical and not 100% electronic driven.  My 2002 still had a cable to control the throttle.

I love the gmt 800s. My dad had an 03, I had an 04. They’re comfortable, capable, and simple. They have their typical junk gm cheapout issues, but they’re well documented and fixable.

Just because it's old doesn't make it worth a lot. Being rare (like only a couple of thousand MFG'd or a special item on only a few) would make them more desirable.

I feel like only a select few will maintain worth but it will only be the best of the best. I use the 454SS as my example. The nice trucks can be costy, but you can get a junker cheap. Possibly the SS will be a collection truck with 4wd and the 6.0.

Have to keep in mind the amount of trucks manufacturered, in the 60s production was low, in 2000s the made hundreds of thousandsof trucks. Guess only time will tell.

Depends.  I think low mileage examples that are clean even of run of the mill models will go up in value from where they are now to a certain extent.  Even the square body trucks have shot up  a lot and GM made literally millions of reg cab 2wd long box 73 to 87s... and guys want a lot for low mile clean ones.  The low production models will first... the SS, the relatively unknown 2004 and 2005 Vortec HO trucks, the 06 and 07 Vortec Max trucks, etc.

I dunno though as honestly everyone thinks because it's old, low mile and clean it's worth a fortune.... whether it is or not.

Example.... some goober in a facebook group I am in has a 2wd 8 foot bed regular cab 1990 GMC that has like 20000 original miles on it.  He bought it not long ago for next to nothing, did a simple static drop and changed the rims.  Now in his head it's a $20000+ truck...... Sorry.  It's a boring grandpa 350 TBI powered reg cab they made millions of... What does he use to cite his price?  The 454SS...... which his long box has about as much in common with as a Ford F150 of the same year does.  Sad thing is some idiot may pay it... as he sold another he repainted, that was actually a  2wd long box 6 lug light duty 2500 with around 50000 miles for he says $16k...

To me either of those two long boxes are sub 10000 dollar trucks..... but if some moron pays it then power to you.

I myself have a time capsule 1994 reg cab short box 2wd that has clean scratch free paint on the floor of the bed..... along with a clean perfect exterior and non faded perfect Silverado interior.  It's all original.  Do I think my truck is worth like $20K...... no.  Running and driving with a new 350 and new 4L60e it might be worth around 8 to 10..... but I tend to think I live in reality lol.

It will be nostalgic like the fox body mustang now is so it definitely has the chance to be a collectible in the distant future because it looks good.  But even in the foxbody world only the top ends/rare builds are really the only ones worth the $$

Edit:  I re read this and it sounds like I’m fond of foxbodys which I’m not lol.   I am very fond of the gmt800s.   I just think the two are comparable when it comes to potential collect ability as they should be more desirable then a ford celebrity with a 5.0.

Very good question! I am currently looking for a good used truck as a daily driver and this age of truck is what I am looking for. More specific, Was any year of the SS trucks any better than the other? Were all years AWD?

I am a sucker for RCSB trucks though so this is what I am mainly been looking for, a few in good shape in the US but up in Canada most 1999 to 2007 classics are in rough shape from being winter driven.

03 and 04 SS trucks have a clutch fan and 2005 has electric fans on it ( engine fan lol).  03-04 SS's were all AWD and then in 2005 you could get AWD or 2wd and then 2006 and 2007 were 2wd only.  2005 is the first year of the sunroof as well.

You live in southern Alberta so just watch Kijiji.. there are plenty of decent ones still around down there especially.

A clean example still goes for a pretty penny up here. Hell I traded my 2000 Z71 in last year and got $6k out of it. Dealer sent it to the States and made $2k off of it. They'll do the same thing as the Squarebodies and the GMT400's before them. Once the last years of the generation hits 20 years old (so about 2027), they'll start to climb more in value. It won't be much, but there will be a surge in value, especially for rust free survivors. There are pristine low mileage GMT400's around me that go for $14-$20k, that last year were worth $8-12K. There's also the odd screw ball asking $40k for one, but those guys are morons.

If the Canadian $$$$ was stronger I would bring a GMT800 up from US. I have found a few nice rcsb Chevys down here! In AZ for a few months so I have been checking down here. Most are in the Midwest or far east coast. I was asking about the SS trucks because I found a decent looking one in BC. After you look at used trucks in US you really realize how much winter takes out of Canadian trucks.

Trucks in the US are overpriced unless our dollar is on par... and when it was they were still overpriced lol.  I have found plenty of clean examples here in Alberta ( bought and sold) that guys swear are from the States..... but they aren't.  You are much further ahead buying here and selling state side and that has been at least 10 years now...  There are clean trucks depending on the State but they have other weird places to corrode, paint and interiors that bake out of them when the average numpty leaves them outside there whole life and whatever else.  No free rides lol.

When you are looking for something specific like I am (RCSB, 4X4, 5.3L, extra clean) they are pretty hard to find in Canada. I have found about 3 country wide and most of them are in Ontario or the Maritimes. In 2 days I have found a dozen across the US but they are mostly in places where you would have to haul them.

Even extra cabs in the 1999 to 2007classic era are hard to find in Canada that are not over priced or rusty.

I am willing to pay for what I want but the exchange is killer for us!
