I purchased a 2019 1500 Slverado LT package recently and noticed before I purchased that it did not  not have xm on the radio and I wanted xm radio or I would not purchase the truck. They said it was no problem as all they have to do is put the xm chip in the radio. Today they  are adding a chip that will give me xm radio. I do not know what they story would have been if I noticed it after the sale

Do you know what that involved. Only solution I can find is to install the VAIS system.

Well I wrote this before I picked up the  truck and they installed  the VAIS GSR Generation 2 SXV300.

It was not what I was expecting  as it plugs into the port that you use to run android auto . Which is no good to me as I want to listen to xm and use google maps at the same time.  Also the installer was lazy and did not install the antenna out side and kept it under the dash. This causes another issue  - because the signal is not as strong as it could be it takes 2  minutes before you can use the radio as it isays it is media indexing.

I do not know what the dealer is going to do.

I called  VAIS and they confirmed the only way to use their product is to use the android port but to stop the media indexing the antenna need to be on the outside of the truck and after that is accomplished the radio need be have a factory reset and everything will be fine.

He also mentioned to me that if I still want to use my android auto I can purchase a usbc to usbc cable and plug it in next to the android auto plug and it should work.

yep, same here. The dealer wants to plug in this modual to get me xm. I have to guess that its the same as everyone else is getting. This really chaps my butt. I asked my sales person how much time I got for both xm onstar and he said a month of each. I went back to the dealer and parked the truck out front and went inside and asked the sales team to go out and set it up, well they couldn't figure it out. Sorry for all the AND's. How much is this modual? How long will it take to put in. How much is the radio upgrade radio

But, even with VAIS, ( and please, correct me if I'm wrong ) you still have to have an antennae with wire on the outside of your truck?

I seriously considered VAIS, but didnt want to fool with hiding that wire that has to go from the inside of the truck outside. ( the antenna wire )

Antenna is always needed, however there's been some creative ways to hide it, one I've heard is mounting the magnetic antenna underneath the sharkfin antenna. Another is coming out of the third brake light, however the antenna is needed. We, and for disclosure, I'm with VAIS Technology sell and service hundreds of Chevy, GMC and Buick dealers with our unit. The package ordering for GM has changed and many dealers have not included this package. Our unit is the go-to piece out there, especially you you live or travel in areas with terrible cell phone signal.

I understand that.

It's just having to hide the wire that is connected to the antenna

I was hoping yall would come out with a wireless antenna

Until then, I'm very happy just to stream.

Hiding it can be done, not easy but can be done, The other choice is to purchase the GM antenna with sat radio connector and just replace your current antenna. I highly doubt anyone can or will make a wireless antenna, signal quality is crucial.

That's strange, your own people at VAIS, told me over the phone they may try to do just that.

At any rate, I'm pretty happy with streaming.

I'm part of the executive team here and I would know. We had an aggressive person, no longer with us who might have been that person, for obvious reasons. Thanks for the conversation and glad the streaming is working for you.

It is easy to hide the antenna wire. I tucked it under the windshield trim, ran it in between the door and fender. Then slipped it in between a seam on the dash. I have the Siriusxm onx radio. It works fine by using the fm radio station. But I wanted to use Bluetooth. I bought their docking system. But I am not able to pair the system over Bluetooth.

Anybody have any ideas? I also noticed I can not get android auto to show up on my display.

Worst vehicle 'upgrade ' ever. I cant believe GM put out these budget trucks without a budget price tag. I have a higher end truck that sounds like a old pinto,no GPS standard on Z71? No Sirius either.  By the time I add kicker amp system,Nav chip and dealer fee, I still need XM installed. Such B.S, surprised CD players are obsolete too. I have a basic am/FM radio now that sounds like it has 2 little speakers in the whole truck. I'm going back to 2018 style at a loss of over 10K..

I do believe like it was said before, these trucks were ordered by dealers that were lazy n just ordered like they did the 18 and down expecting the package to have this stuff.  When I bought mine i seen alot of custom crewcabs at a local dealer with the mighty 4.3 and no xm radio.  A lot meaning a dozen or so. The lt should have alot of better things than the custom.  The 18 and down trucks do seem to ride better and have the accessories like they should so I dont blame u at all for looking at those.

For instance I have a custom with a 5.3, remote start, power tailgate, xmas radio and 20s.
