IMO coilovers are for serious off road trucks or show trucks. Seems like over kill for a daily driver.

I've been thinking the same thing. However, I like the idea of coilovers for my truck (90% street, occasional dirt roads) if I can get the truck leveled and run 33 x 11's on my stock 18" wheels without worrying about the front end geometry or rubbing. My truck is a late 15 build, so I have the best shot at not switching UCA's from what I've read here.

So, I'll wait until some guys have actually installed the 6112's and see how that goes.

Hell yeah.  Go for it.  Theyre definitely the best option for sure

I have the same questions with 20 inch stock rims with 275/60R20 K02 but have the stamped steel UCAs

These are coil-overs. What other set of coil-overs can you get for $800? Last time I check the cheapest Fox set 2.0's that I could find were $1000 and if you wanted to step up to King's you are talking 2000 beans minimum.

If the 6112s are considered coilover than so are the Eibachs. For $586 out the door at Autoanything you get struts, springs, and shocks for a 2.5” lift or more.

Yeah yeah they are skinnier than the 6112’s but for my drive to my sons preschool, Chicago rush hour, and 2 months of occasional off-road for hunting, they work great.

So many options all depends on how you really use your truck. No one size fits all.

That’s probably pretty obvious when I tell people I have a 2.25 RC level lol.

Haha same. I have run levels on my last 2 personal trucks. Always dealer installed when new. I helped my brother install the 2.5RC kit on his F150. While tightening the spacer on the strut the plastic puck cracked and we had to get a new one from RC. We were hand-tightening the studs down with a standard length wrench so I have a hard time believing we over-torqued it. Then when we had it all back together we noticed there is only 1/8" space between the UCA and strut spring when the suspension is unloaded and immense force on the UBJ. Probably the most sketchy set up I have ever seen and I will never purchase a level kit again after doing that install.

I am running a 33x12.5 on stock 20's with a level. Slight rub on UCA/Swaybar only because of +27mm offset, if I had a 1/8 or 1/4" wheel spacer, the rub would be eliminated. Factory UCA's and running mudflaps

For someone who does ZERO offroading, would a coil over be smoother on the highway? At MAX height plus a spacer would the ride be smoother then a 5100? are Springs included on a coilover? It seems like it might be cheaper to purchase coilovers with springs preinstalled then pay to have someone remove the springs off factory struts and onto 5100s?

Just driving along, the ride will be just ever so slightly smoother than the 5100 (negligible), but when you hit a pothole, speedbump, road imperfection etc it will be easily noticeable that the larger diameter 6112 does not have to work as hard to compensate for the bump. Its able to spread the work load out over a larger shock piston and does not have to travel as much to absorb the impact.

We charge $100 to assemble shocks normally, a mechanic should be able to install these for the same cost as he would coilovers.

Ordered the 6112's and a couple 5160's for the rear.

My local guys were shocked at the price you offered. Gave me their labor rate though.

Appreciate the forum support.

When you assemble the 6112 do you have to reuse the rubber boot over the shaft?  Or can that part be left off for a more traditional coil over look?

Got these on today. Look great! Improvement over stock ride. Smoother. Less body roll. Just feels all around much better. Thanks again.

    • Because that is IDIOTIC, much like this question. They've already been forced to do it by past administrations - why would you roll that back when it's a GOOD thing?  WHO IS ARGUING FOR LOWER MILEAGE???? 😂  NOBODY IS!!   I'm certainly not! What I want is RELIABLE vehicles again that are worth the price paid!    I don't get your logic here ...   In 2003 I paid $2,200 for our '86 Grand Marquis. It's STILL running and I've never been inside the engine, aside for the timing cover since it was leaking, so I threw a new timing set in since that makes sense. Transmission is ORIGINAL. Electric pump in the gas tank is ORIGINAL. Rear end is ORIGINAL. I'd have to hit my head REAL hard to want to pay $60k or more for a car that still can't come close to the comfort, seating and storage space, or reliability of this one. Nothing is even in the ball park! Hundreds of thousands of brands and models have been built and sent to the crusher while this one keeps on going!   https://postimg.cc/Z9XRrCSg   I've got a whole fleet of cars, motorcycles, and a truck close to this age for summer and winter. No one could pay me enough to buy anything built this century. I have zero use for any it.
    • Since I'm the one who has to fix them when they break, I'll take vehicles over 30 years old all day, EVERY day, over ANY modern crap. Have you attempted any repairs on anything built after 2006? It's a friggin nightmare, and gets worse the newer the model year.    If I had the will or desire, I can make any car of any age outside of a Model T (I don't have THAT much will ...) just as powerful, comfortable, and have all the tech the new stuff does, and get pretty close in mileage, too. I prefer SIMPLICITY. The less the vehicle has, the less to fix WHEN it breaks, not IF.   I'm glad you snot-nosed punks don't like them. More for us, plus that keeps the prices from climbing more than they already have.👍
    • Bringing this thread back on topic. I just noticed the incredible lack of bright chrome across the entire new lineup. Even the Denali has tinted the brightwork in the grille and has none elsewhere. None of them have chrome bumpers. As far as I can tell there aren't even chrome mirror caps. I'm curious if this also happens out back? Are there no chrome rear bumpers either? This is quite the departure for GMC.
