Winter Returned

After days of 110F+ heat index, today we got a break. Humid but low 70's so I caught up on the mowing. About a thousand pounds of clippings. Use all the mouse power that Honda could muster. Be a week before I dry out. :P

It hasn’t rained here for two months. I’ve never seen it here before. Grass quit growing and is brown. Trees losing leaves, water restrictions. Nothing but 100 degree days. Some watering on rose bushes, small trees and for the first time big trees. It’s a losing battle.

We went almost three months without rain earlier this year. Ten weeks actually. Some yards looked like they were spray-painted brown. I did some spot watering and cut the grass at four inches on the advice of the lawn service I use. Who knew? Grass can't stay dormant forever without dying. About eight weeks they say. Grass carries its food and water in the leaf. Longer leaf = more stress resistance. When we got some significant rain, the yard responded beautifully. It is really lush. Best it's looked in about a decade. Aaron's Law Service did us a solid. 😉 Recovery included an antifungal. Drought makes it worse. Brown spot and green circles are now absent. Two applications of weed control.

This happened here in 2012 and we almost lost the entire half acer lot. Struggled ever since. Until we got Pro help. Took very little water. Startigic watering was key. Longer cut. Sharper blade.

Trees get a slow soaker hose and still are losing some leaves. Still working on that. But they look better than most in the neighborhood.

Summer still going strong here on the east coast.  Getting ready for the wind and rain from Idalia.  We need the rain.  The weekend forecast is looking great. Only a high of 88 instead of 95.

Put a fan outside on your porch and aim it towards Texas for me. :)

Leafs have been falling with the lack of rain. Good news finally. We may actually get decent rain and go under 90. This of course will open the southern door to the Gulf with our high pressure dome leaving. Tropical weather time!
