Suspension honest opinions

I mean, maybe I’m in the minority, but yeah I want a truck-shaped car. Or atleast the option to have it.

I can’t be the only person here that doesn’t pull many trailers or haul 10,000 pounds of cinder blocks. I pull the occasional trailer with a lawn mower on it or the yearly load of mulch or dirt in the bed.

I’m not saying all trucks have to suffer to have a soft ride, but there’s no reason that the other manufacturers can offer the various options but GM can’t. Same as the fuel tank sizes. They’re so damn restricting.

I don’t think you in the minority ,

i would say at least 50% of truck owners tow once in a while to go fishing, hunting , haul stuff around. Etc..... it’s kind if odd that in 2019 all majors builders can’t develop some kind of  an effective progressive suspension than can be more comfortable and can load the same weight.

The truck market is probably at it’s peek as never before. I guess no manufacturers want to invest money in r&d to become the king in 1/2 ton truck market.

Trucks have always been for work with me. People have demanded them to become cars. That’s why Ram is getting so popular. People are paying a premium over cars to sit higher and have an oversized trunk they rarely use. For me older trucks became hot rods. Ever since GM killed the rear drive sedan.

Only one manufacturer specializes in soft rides. If you want a pickup that rides like a car and you dont care what kind of payload rating your truck comes with, your only option is to buy a Ram since only Ram sells half-tons with a coil spring rear suspension. If you dont tow anything, I dont know why you would care about fuel tank sizes since a 5.7 Hemi will guzzle enough additional fuel to negate any range advantage a larger tank could offer.

If you want a pickup that rides like a car, why not a Honda Ridgeline?

Man, I'm glad Chevy is stickin to their guns so to speake. I like my Silverado being a truck lol.

But, honestly mine rides so good. Guess I'm just easily pleased.

However, if I really wanted the finest ride I could get, it would be hands down a Suburban.

Never have I ever rode in anything finer....

Didn't say your opinion wasn't valid. It's  yours. Said it wasn't a FACT. To be a fact it would have to be true without exception. It isn't. Now move on.

Grumps... calmate. Originally, I saw that the C&D article you posted noted the F-150 Platinum rode much better than the High Country. That was their opinion, not mine.

I was simply pointing out that all of the "hey, it's a truck bro!" protagonists here continue bringing up payload, payload, payload when it comes to ride quality trade-off, yet the F-150 Plat doesn't give up THAT much payload on the HC.

So maybe... just maybe... it's possible that GM has some more work to do vs. the other two when it comes to ride.

I'm consistently amused at how these Z71 ride conversations cannot seem to tolerate an honest critique of GM's product.

It was the Limited they tested, and it gave up 440 pounds of payload vs the Silverado. 30% less payload is a huge difference by anyone’s measure!

Again, not making excuses for the GM, as I have gone on record in this very thread, and others criticizing the ride of the new Chevy.

That said, I do have to object to the C&D article as they did seem to put two “cars with trunks” up against a much more capable truck and gave little consideration to that when testing. There’s a reason it’s called Car and Driver.

Ah, thanks for the correction RE: F-150 Limited. I have a hard time keeping up with Ford's 23 trim levels, lol.

Another horse long dead still getting whipped. TO MUCH SPRING RATE. These are feather weight half ton trucks with one ton plus spring rates.

Nailed it. Yet people keep complaining. The public wants a 1500 that hauls like a 3500 but want it to ride like an El Camino.

?

If your not interested by a thread just don't read it

RAM is getting slammed on here for the perception that their 1500’s relatively soft, nice-riding suspension somehow results in less payload and towing ability than comparable Chevys and Fords. Just more fake news.

Case in point, WATCH and learn on the new 2020s.  ‘Nuff said.

Traded in my third Dodge(2012) first coil spring rear for 2015 Chevy because of rear suspension, although plush, squats under light load, added stabilizer bar, no help, added 1k lb Monroe coilover shocks, again squats like a duck under any load, toolbox, payload, towing. Scary shake and sway when pulling.

I'm on my second Chevy now and very happy so far. Long live the leaf spring!!! As far as ford goes, when those turbochargers finally quit squealing, my Naturally Aspirated V8 without start stop will get me home.

We’re talking 2019s and 2020s here. Others not germane to the OP’s situation.

The suspension makes me miss my old Ford F-150. It was soft all around and soaked up bumps nicely. No jitters from the rear end or anything.

That is my main issue with the twin-tube shocks from the RST Z71, it is the worst, period. It gets out of control way more than all the others I've driven. In fact, I have never experienced that in ANY of the company trucks.

I have been looking at the new 2019 Ford F-150 trucks, the handling is unacceptable. I drive on dirt roads every day to the ranch.

Drove mine yesterday, I now have a little over 1,900 miles. And, shes as smooth as silk, no joke. The ride keeps getting better to be honest.

What annoys me is that there's little to no information on the suspension on the website. If you dig around, you can determine that the Trail Boss gets monotube shocks but that's it.

Does anyone know what shocks NHT and other non-Z71 trucks get?
