I mean 16k is a lot for a small block....but in comparison to the 6.0 it might be marginally better....maybeemoji2375.png?? Idk.lol

I agree. for us guys towing 10,000 lb trailer i think it will do just fine.

I watched the Ike run on lunch.  Needs the 10L90 with that 3.73 gearing.  Being they kept the 6L90, they should have kept the 4.10 gears.

I don't tow 16,000 lbs up a 7% grade for 8 miles, so not too concerned. Never been real impressed with "Mr. Truck", anyway. Seems like an ass in most reviews of any make. I don't think anyone expects a gas burner to perform miracles on the Ike, but he acted like it was the end of the world.

I'd like them to take the same weight and tow it close to sea level in rolling hills. Bet it's no problem keeping speed in normal driving conditions.

I agree...I mean 99.9 % of people will never tow with that truck in those conditions with that that load. Even with almost 14k the 6.0 was able to manage at least 35 mph when it got to the top. It’s still impressive that these trucks can do this while operating at normal temps though, people aren’t seeing that.

I didn't think it was a bad performance for a gas engine.  If I were towing that much weight regularly, I would get a 3500.  Doubt it would sag as much in the rear with that much tongue weight.

I hear from some sources that the 6.6L should be compared to the Ford 6.2L and Ram 6.4.  Supposedly GM has a larger gas engine on the way.

Some say the 6.6 more aligns with the new 7.3, so who knows. I do know if I were towing that much up that grade, I'd manually select gears before it got to a point of "catch up". Learned that a while ago when towing in the mountains. Keep the RPM up from the beginning and you will fare better throughout. I know they wanted the truck and computer programming to do everything, though.

Want to see what a 7.3L 10spd combo does on the test. I tow in BC so everywhere I go is uphill. Not Ike grades but enough that my 1500 and 8,200lb trailer slow down.

I do think GM missed the boat with the 6 spd for the gasser.

And handicapping it with 3.73 gears.  4.30 is still an option for the 7.3 10 speed trucks.  It's like the guys that build the mall crawlers..  they have no problem getting a lift and big tires but gears... hell no!   Lol.

I am curious how different the runs would be I'd they would take advantage of the manual shift option instead of leaving it on auto.

It would pull better in manual for sure.  The whole waiting until 2000 rpm wide open foot planted to downshift is classic GM shitty tuning.  It needs the rpm to pull and accelerate and it would have been quite a bit better if you held it there.  But for their testing they do it with all the trucks left in tow haul and doing it's own thing.

I will say that a few years back the 6 liter didn't impress anyone until the Ram 6.4 ran and did notably worse.  I'm not defending the GM setup though as the axle gearing and tuning are major handicaps like they always are.

I bought a 2020 2500 Crew Cab Standard Bed 6.6L Gas about 3 weeks ago and have about 1400 miles right now. I am one of those that baby it until at least the first oil change lol, so I don't have a lot of feedback to provide yet though I plan to participate here often and will plan to do so. I will be casual driving and trailering various trailers and loads with this truck.

Computer is saying 13.5 - 14 mpg so far. I plan to test myself on next full tank.

I have checked my MPG at the pump every time. 1st tank was 11.8 mpg and then two tanks were at 12.7 mpg and the last tank was 14.1 mpg. The 14.1 mpg was mainly highway driving at 70 mph. The other tanks were mainly short 10-15 mile drives with a mix of highway and mainly city driving. I have over 1500 miles on it so far and have driven it fairly easy.

I will have to find my gas receipts to see what the computer said I was getting for MPG.

If you really think about it, you gained 40hp and 60ft/lbs over the 6.0 without compromising fuel mileage. That ain’t bad. Would be interesting to see that change in mpgs if the new trucks had 4.10’s.
