'19 3500 L5P (black/black)  Over 100 today and AC isn't working.  My guess is the climate control computer got really hot and that caused it.  Was in direct sun for about 3 hours.  After leaving in shade at home, it's now working.  Pretty lame.  Anyone have this issue? Is there a fix?  Hate to waste a day at the dealer just to be told is a-okay.  (Compressor clutch wasn't engaging, by the way.  Ice cold now that it's working again). Thanks.

I'm in hot humid Louisiana and must say my a/c works great and haven't had a problem all summer.  100° temps with 115° heat index and blows 38° out the vents.  Hope your a/c isn't on the brink of going out like another members here did.  The whole interior, dash, seats had to come out to change a leaking evaporator.  Not a pretty sight...

I imagine it's a computer board that just can't handle the heat.  Worked fine once I parked in the shade after a couple hours.  Works fine this AM as well.  My guess is they won't be able to diagnose the problem this season.  Guess I better turn that appointment into an oil change as well so I don't completely waste my time.

Took it in.  Freon was low.  No leak detected.  Dye added in hopes of finding the leak.  Still not sure that was the cause as it only failed on a 100 degree day, but perhaps.  Unfortunately, no more 100 degrees this year. Got my heater plug cut off and an unexpected bonus :-(

If the evaporator has a tiny leak I don't think the dye will show due to it's location. I hope it's not the evaporator.

Mine goes in for the second time next week for weak AC on the drivers side.  Last time it was 0.2kg low on Freon.  Worked fine for a month, now it's failing again.  I suspect there's a leak even though they pressure tested it.  They said they should have put dye in last time, so hopefully they can see the leak this time.  If not it'll be a recharge and dye, and wait for it to fail again.

It's not the sun overheating anything, its cheap rubbish made parts. Go look at the 14-18 forums to see what great pieces of crap gm a/c parts consist of these days. Mine lasted 3 1/2 years at least, and 32k before it decided to leak from oh the lines, the evap, the condenser, only original piece left now is the compressor and i heard those are not much better. Looks like they are using the same low quality components that are guaranteed to fail at some point.

2020 GMC Sierra 1500 

 

Sounds like I have the same issue as some of you.  Driver side air conditioning is not cold.  Took it in with 1200 miles - refrigerant was low.  Service re-charged refrigerant and put in green dye.  Same issue came back 3 weeks later.  Refrigerant was 50%.  Clearly a leak but they cannot detect the leak.  They are saying they may have to replace/repair the evaporator (which is a pretty invasive fix).  Possibly the condenser.  

 

Has anyone had this issue resolved?  What was the solution in your case?

I'm having the same issue now on my 2019 Silverado. Air cold on passenger side,  hot on drivers side with temps set at same level. Will be taking it in this week to check it out.

It never goes back the way it was always something after that seen alot of that at the dealerships

yes sir just as bad if not worse here the amount of plastic is insane

I will now be on my 5th attempt at fixing it later today.  Anyone ever get a resolution on the drivers side no AC?  I've had 3 recharges, and 1 damper accuator replacement.  No luck still, and no sign of the dye from the leak.  I have a feeling my truck will soon look like truck pictured above.

    • Question @diyer2 on this line if you please. Are you saying the shudder is the system turning on and off at the frequency of the shudder? Guess I'm asking if you are saying you have seen it do this with the bi-direction scan tool in graph mode? If so have you been able to discern the 'trigger'. Something is telling to cycle rapidly.    My truck just started doing this recently. 197K on the clock. My response has been M5 anything under 55 mph. I treat it like a lugging stick shift. Gear down and let it spin a bit. Engauge M5, then tow mode and then M6 lets the trans stay in 5th but the AFM is active. Smooth like Skippy.    My thought was that as a machine ages the friction gets lower and as the system is load based, the lower friction would allow it to turn on at ever lower rpm until it reaches the lugging point. And yes I am ignorant of any minimum rpm requirement for the system. If you know that would be useful information.    As you know I run a Scan-Gauge II which allows me to watch the On/Off of the signal to the VLOM. While in the shudder mode I'm not seeing is cycle at that frequency or at all for that matter outside the triggers @newdude posted a few years back. Now is it possible that the refresh rate isn't fast enough to catch it? Maybe. It is why I asked my first question about graphing and trigging parameter.     As we have observed from members here the failure point is all over the map miles wise as you note yourself in your opening post. That by itself begs a few questions like fellows that comment on these lifters failing even after the system has been disabled.     • UPDATE 2: Steering wheel control backlights and control of the cluster can supposedly be achieved by adding a wire to pin 20 of the cluster and tapping it to pin 2 of the main clock spring harness. I'm going to give it a shot - will update  
    • GM Global A pickups 2019-2022 can do OTA programming for the radio.  GM VIP (GM Global B) can do OTAs for almost every module on board.  So a 2022.5 and newer pickup can do OTAs for recalls like the 2.7 fuel flow recall.  EVs get OTAs that improve one pedal driving, radio issues, HVAC issues, updated battery management software, etc.     So age of the vehicle/what GM electrical platform its on will alter what amount of updates can be pushed on OTAs.  
    • Thank You.   So far my new ride is making me look like a genius for going with the 3.0L, as my first fuel refill occurred over three weeks from when I took delivery.  This engine combination is very amazing.  So far no issues and had not done a regen yet.
    • I am curious as to how much fluid you put back in the transmission ( assuming you had replaced the filter to compare to my findings ) and then went through the process of warming up the trans before pulling the check plug to drain out the excess and if you measured how much came back out.    I just found it surprising that some claimed a certain amount less fluid being put in and then draining some back out. The attitude of the truck as per if the surface is level and how the trucks stance is would make quite a difference since the check plug is right at the front of the transmission.
