I have posted charts on the right change times and it is based of fluid temps. But amsoil says 40k. Average temps I have seen posted for our truck show 30k-40k. And everyone other then dealer says pan drop full clean out.
I have 11k miles now and I blew up my 6l80e so $10,000 later and endless hours of research.

My truck has only towed a handful of times and My truck’s currently at the mechanic’s getting a new transmission at 142k.

Sounds correct considering what I seen at 124k. Very surprised. First truck I seen this bad at 125,000km. My 4l60E’s fluid looked better at 160k

$10,000 for a new one?

Quickly looked and seemed a remanufactured 6L80 can be bad for a lot less.

Gm wanted 5600 for a new 6spd. I had mine rebuilt with a 36k warranty for 3200.00. Figured a rebuild would be fine since I have so many miles already.

Are you in Canada? Or are those US prices?

I’m getting a remanufactured transmission with 3 yr unlimited mileage for 4500. Dealership wanted 5200.

Dealership is probably giving you a brand new unit. If I was given a price of 4500 or 5200, I'd be more pressed to go new. I know everyone has their own budgets but that's really not far off for a brand new one. Just food for thought.

Do the converters have a drain plug? In addition to dropping the pan and filter, you’ll get 90% of the oil out and changed without flushing.

No converters do not have drains built in.

The advisor told me they use a reman for replacement as well, though it’s possible I misunderstood lol

Haha perhaps, but that makes more sense price wise. Maybe I didn't ask my stealership if they were using a new trans. Maybe I just assumed. Anyway, good luck!

Thanks! I'm back in business. Have 7k on the reman trans. Seems to be doing well. The shop told me if it fails, even if it's a part they didn't replace, it's covered as they looked it over and deemed some parts ok. Time will tell.

To address a few post.
There is no drain plug in pan or in the converter.
Also with the trans thermostat it is much more difficult to get all the fluid.
Dealers use remanufactured trans and the price is around the 3k mark but install and fluid is $1200-1500. That is the price of a high end trans, however then you still have labor and should get a better converter.
Good single disc converters are still $700+
Issue other then above average trans temps is slip.
All autos have some slip but with our afm, dod, more gears, and torque management. The TM allows for too much slip. And wear out parts much faster.
Best thing is a afm disable and good maintenance. Next is a trans tune. Last is better parts.
I don't as well as any known performance shop recommend flushes. Ask the biggest name trans shops for 60l80 and 8l90 and they all say same. Get temp down, good fluid, change regularly with drain fill, and check tune.
