Transmission cooler

Hello, this is my first post on this forum thank y’all for having me.

I drive a 2007 (new body style) Silverado 1500 5.3l and I’m looking to install a transmission cooler. I like the B&M one from speed engineering but not sure of its quality and what not. Pretty much looking for a good quality transmission cooler and also a mounting bracket of sorts so I can avoid the zip tie look alikes. Any advice will be helpful as I’m not sure on size, BTU’s, stacked or plat and fin etc. Live in south Florida so overcooling shouldn’t be much of an issue.

Thank you, could you perhaps provide some insight on sizing or mounting it without using the zip tie look alikes.

You might search the site. Many members have posted pics of their setup.

A 3/4"x11"x12 stacked plate is good for 10,000 #s towing, iirc

If you've already got a cooler up front, you can mount the new one in the same location by fabricating some brackets.

You can spend $50 or a few hundred on one. The approximate size listed above, works just fine on all of our trucks at work. Rarely ever see anything above 180-190 under heavy towing.. Most of the time, temps stay 50 to 70 degrees above ambient after fully warmed up.

Then there are the guys that will install a cooler that is half the size of the radiator. To each his own

You could opt to go with a larger cooler such as done here. This is what I have done to my 08. I have 2 that were identical, 1 was off a GMT400 3/4 ton (B&M 70274) and the other was a Derale cooler. Different but same dimensions and cooling complicity was close on both. They also allowed me to run a larger cooler without installing rubber lines.

Lots of guys run the Tru-Cool 40K.  Mine came with the stock setup and works fine for me here in Florida.  I rarely tow, temps are usually 150s on the highway during the summer, might go into the 170s in city driving.

You can add the stock setup to your truck.

I bought a stackd plate Hayden, then mounted it using some nylon lock nuts/bolts.  I mounted it on the bracket that holds the hood latch.  There are a couple of holes on that bracket.  I just carefully drilled holes in the trans cooler mounting plate.  Two bolts in the top of the cooler is all it took.
