Hylux/Morimoto D5S HID’s

The externally mounted hylux ballast is pretty damn easy if they have something. It’s just a little box that plugs into the oem wiring and then plugs into the bulb. You only need to find a ground, which was easy as pie.

I’m sure the 35w does make a difference.

I meant “paltry” in general. I’m coming from having halogens all of my life.. this is my first vehicle with HID’s.

So with that being said, even though to most people these are lackluster HID’s, these seem like an upgrade for me. Maybe that’s why I’m more prone to being ok with keeping the 25w’s for now compared to a lot of other people.

So the Hylux and Morimoto HID bulbs have an issue with the "auto" headlight function. What about the DAMA Kanji LED bulbs? Will the "auto" function continue to work with those?

I have had the 35w Morimoto's for 5 years now. If I had to do it again I would go to the 55w ballasts.

Its not the bulbs, its the ballast

They wont work with that one piece ballast bulb combo, they will work with the separate ballast that is mounted in the engine bay. (Well I know they work with 14/15’s)

Really? Do you have upgraded projectors?

It’s unavoidable to shine headlights at peoples faces in certain situations like cresting a hill. I already feel bad for oncoming traffic with my 35w’s, I can’t imagine 55w’s.

Although I was stationed in north dakota for a few years and it was completely flat, wouldn’t be that bad there.

Yeah, I live in the rolling hills of Ontario, with two-way traffic. I am used to getting drilled with people's high beams so I don't really have mercy on stupid people anymore. These projectors have been common for 5 years + now and if they haven't figured out that there is a cut off line that they fall under on hills then there is no hope for them. I get it in my 2500 with LED's too. Many people that flash me are other K2 drivers that don't realize their lights are just as bright of brighter... but you're right, it would probably be worse for other drivers with 55w's in that regard, in which case I have a 30" bar also so more lumens are not really called for on my 2015. I will say my 2500's LED's are a slightly better setup. Better light output and I don't get flashed as much as my HID truck.

Did you do the projector retrofit or you still have the oem projector?

that might help a lot. I believe the oem one focuses the light right in front of you for more of a spotlight effect, where as the upgraded ones spread the light out. 2 years later I still think to mysef “damn, I love these headlights”

i did them both the bulb and projector upgrade at the same time so I never saw my 35w’s in the oem projector.
