Can one start the 2017 Chevrolet Silverado HD2500 remotely when the block heater is plugged in ?

Its not a good idea to run truck with block heater working. The antifreeze can move away from the heater element and cause it to burn out. As it is circulating.

I've done it a few times on REALLY cold mornings, but have not left the truck running for more than 5 minutes or so before unplugging. I'd be interested to see if there is anything in the owner's manual/Duramax supplement for this.

I run mine all the time with the block heater plugged in. Four years old now... still working fine..

Exactly how can it "move away from the heater element"? The block heater is way below the coolant level and the water pump shouldn't be pumping air through the system. There's nothing to go in the area around the heater element so it's not immersed in coolant.

I have always done this on my trucks. I let them run for 20 minutes. Never been a problem. Usually have 150,000 to 250,000 km on them when I trade them off. Not sure why it would be?
