I have an LT 4X4 I am going to tow behind my motorhome. GM calls for the battery to be disconnected when the truck is flat towed.

Has anyone figured out how to install a disconnect given the integrated cover over the battery? There doesn't appear to be anyway to easily re-clock the positive cable to be able to install a cable to the solenoid. I haven't contacted GM about this but hopefully they have a workaround.

Never disconnect the positive unless you are replacing the battery. Always disconnect the negative terminal.

Why would I only disconnect the neg? I do know there is a complicated mess on the positive side but disconnected is disconnected, isn't it? Are there circuits that stay energized even with the neg pulled loose?

I dug further into the owners manual and found the answer I was looking for. Thanks for the answer.

I have been pulling the neg battery cable every time I have towed the truck. Has anyone found a decent way to install a disconnect on a 2020 or newer 1500 pickup?

You might check your local marine supply.  I would think one of those high amperage boat battery isolator switches would work fine.  Just have a battery shop modify your cables to allow the switch to be installed in line to your negative terminal and you could disconnect the battery by the turn of the switch.

Do an internet search for '12V battery disconnect switch' and you can read til your eyes bleed -- about the types available and things to consider when selecting..

Lots of sources too.

Auto, truck, RV, marine, farm.

Fwiw, the 'things' powered by the battery will cannot run and cannot be using power if ETHER cable is disconnected.

Always disconnect the the negative first and connect it last.

What do you need to reset when you connect the battery again?
I am going to disconnect my battery and want to make a list of the things that will get reset when I disconnect the battery.

Don't worry about it or bother with a list. I have disconnected batteries on these trucks several times. No reset necessary. You will have to roll down the drivers side window and roll it back up again.
