8 speed transmission

I tried that method and couldn't get the exhaust to move down enough.  Trust me I tried because the last thing I wanted to do was loosen the exhaust from the manifolds but that is what I had to do.

I put a block of wood on top of the y pipe where they join up between the pipe and the floor of the truck then with the other block of wood jack up the rear of the transmission until I’m about to lift the whole truck off the lift. Then the pan slips right out!

Please do, any can anyone tell me when GM changed the type/brand of ATF they were running in the 8L90e? I had my second trans put in last December (2018) and wondering if it got the new fluid or the old stuff. Shifts like an absolute gem of a unit now but I want to swap the fluid if the changeover was after Dec 2018.

The new stuff from GM came out in January of 2019.  The difference is the label.  The old Mobil fluid had a black label and the new one has blue around Mobil.

Thanks Nick, I thought they had come up with a new type of fluid that was "much better than the old stuff" according to many sources here. If its a new bottle, same oil I will keep it as is because its working great. Only 2 more months and I can take her out of hibernation again.

No video, he is just taking pictures of each step as he does the service on the 6 and 8 speed transmissions.

 

He is doing it while he is at work at his dealership.
