Broken into but...

So trying to take kids and Wife for a relaxing weekend. Parked at a Little Rock Hotel (not saying what one) but under the light and near the hotel door. 1am front desk calls and it was the PD letting me know my vehicle was broken into and to come down. Great....  so here is a pic but the SUV has the  Enhanced Security Package with glass break sensor, interior motion sensor, and separate alarm siren setup. So it did it’s job, nothing stollen. But they also hit at least 2 other vehicles as we saw and spoke with those owners, including a K2 truck and a Mustang. The hotels Security Guard saw nothing... really and all 3 vehicles in separate sides if the hotel? But the hotel security camera captured it but so low quality all we can tell is it was a black Accord.  Just pulled next to it, got out, hit window with crowbar or hammer, alarm went off and they left. So after cleaning up all the glass we drove in the cold with heater wide open for 5 hours back home before the rain hit.

I may come out cheaper getting window from Salvage Yard and doing it myself since just bolted on.  Safe lite wants $350 and unsure what name brand glass, I like OEM or PGW.

I am glad my family is ok, just wish we had stronger punishments for theft.... maybe not cutting off a hand like some countries... but we do have 10 fingers.... just saying.

I can say the buffering from the rear window being gone did not bother me since it sounds like that all the dang time anyway...but I the V4 drone was way more apparent.

That really sucks, that back window is pretty easy to replace yourself. We change quite a few for broken defroster tabs that cant be soldered back on.

Sorry to hear, glad your security  system helped scare them away to prevent  further loss

Can that  enhanced security package be added at the dealer  or do you have to order it that way from factory?

What is your insurance deductible?  In my experience it is difficult to find newer vehicles at the salvage yard.  I believe the yards pull off as many of the good parts that they can sell for top dollar online.  Or if the vehicle is a newer model at the salvage yard, it was wrapped around a tree and rolled over too with very little to no usable parts.

It all depends on what I can find one for or even IF I can. If not then I have a low deductible but if you want it done right...

I have no idea about it added. I would like it on my AT4 now, I don’t even know if the new body style has it available.

People suck. Check car-part.com. I see some listed for around 325 in my area

Sounds like a no brainier to finally utilize the insurance that you pay high premiums for year after year.  I would especially if it ended up costing less to pay the premium than to repair it myself.

I may have to but if you use it then usually the premiums go up so if it is under or close to the deductible then I will. Either way I thank the input and will post the final outcome.

It’s a no fault comprehensive claim. Rates won’t go up. I have had several over the years and no increase.

Good point.  I believe insurance companies cover glass differently.  With Allstate, last summer I had the windshield of my Nissan Altima repaired at Safelite free of charge.  Of course if the entire windshield needed replacement then I would be on the hook for the deductible, but since it was a minor chip I guess they're more than happy to pay the $100 charge than anything else.  Plus I'm sure they have a deal so they aren't actually paying anywhere near what the invoice total is that the customer sees.

Forgot about glass coverage. My wife has a sorento that has full panel sunroof and a baseball broke it. That didn’t qualify for glass coverage just standard comprehensive. Glad I had insurance. Over 5k to fix. Just had to cover deductible. No rate increase. No fault. Crazy

I don't have any "extra" coverage.  Allstate has a special number to call for glass related issues, which leads me to believe they handle glass differently than other damage.

Yeah. I tried calling geico glass claims when it happened to mine. So yes it’s handled differently

If you're in the Houston area, Binswanger Glass might be an option.  When they replaced my windshield in a 2011 Silverado, the glass was very clear.  I have heard complaints about the glass from SafeLite.  I believe they used PGW glass.

Sorry to hear this happened to you.  Sucks regardless but worse when your family is with you and has to suffer the long ride home without the back glass.  Hope they find the ones responsible for this.  They'll strike again and get caught, or run into the wrong person one night.

OK so the back windshield from the dealership at $750 but I found out for some reason only have $100 deductible so I am going that route.    And they said it would not raise my rates.

    • Folks, Have a great new 2026 WT  (std cab, 2.7/4WD) w/base 40/20/40 mech adj bench "fake buckets"  (with lower and upper center console) heavy vinyl seats.  Overall the seats are very comfortable and the vinyl is heavy and appears less likely to 'split out'. Am very tall (6'5")  + a bad back/osteporosis/former hyperparathyroidism so ease/range of movement is a bit restricted.  The truck rides a bit high and I use a nerf step bar w/my left foot to step in, then I put right foot/leg in, drag my butt in  & get seated.  Worked fine in my 2018 RAM quadCab. But I end up dragging my butt over the left raised sidecushsion area of vinyl seat, and due to texture there's fair amount of traction on slide inward.  (ArmorAll didn't improve.) If the seat were even ~1/2" - 3/4" lower it'd be helpful, but base seats just have the forward/backward underseat bail and the side lever for tilt which really doesn't affect seat height.   I really don't want to 'de-puff' the left side sidecushion forming the  fake 'bucket'. I know one company sells 'seat elevator blocks':  but is there a simple way of lowering the height of the driver seat instead?   Thanks Bill W San Jose
    • I have a basic 2026 1500 WT  (2.7L/4WD reg cab shorttbed). Comfy, generally happy with electronics/radio - but is there a way I can add switches to steering wheel right-side position (curr. empty) so I can adjust volume, push phone button to voice dial, etc? Bill W San Jose
    • The curb weight on a 1 ton crew cab long bed is around 7k lbs.  Now, I don't know where you went to school but 9k is not more than 2x 7k lbs. More than 2x 7k lbs would be 14k+.   With that said, obviously yes you're going to feel a 9k lb trailer when slowing down.  I already said, when accelerating.  When changing lanes?  No.  But if you look at the context of what was quoted, the original person said, "after a mile or two..." which means that would be after the accelerating portion and you're driving a generally steady pace.  Please do learn to read and comprehend.
    • So I purchased the Range unit for my 2026 and I am seeing different locations suggested for the ECM . Can anyone confirm wither under hood, left side or right side or behind the wheelwell?
    • Like I've said before. Di and Carbon buildup is not that big of a concern. Engine had minimal buildup, and that engine was obviously not super well maintained. Do regular oil changes, and you're gtg as long as the rest of the truck lasts. Also, the High Pressure FP that people ****** about, but can't tell you why.  Now, I wish they'd trash the variable oil pump. No real world issues with them, but I'll gladly eat whatever miniscule MPG it's saving me in favor of more oil at all RPMs.    Curious to see his assessment of the 7.3 compared to the 6.6. I expect he'll praise the port inj, but from a structural standpoint, the 6.6 is as robust as any engine out there.    Not to take away from the 7.3. I feel it's equally as good as the 6.6.     As to heat on the rear cyls, I'd have to see numerous examples before I'd say it's an issue. Especially not knowing the history of that engine. For all is known, they could have blown a rad hose, and ran it hot, and the 2 rear cyls may be the first to get hot in a low coolant situation, but not be an issue aside from that.
