Silverado Suspension Lift Question

Recommended Posts

So after much consideration between a body lift and suspension lift, I’ve decided to go forth with a suspension lift. I currently have Bilstein 5100 adjustable struts and matching shocks on my 2016 Silverado 1500 Z71.

Bear in mind, I know nothing about lifts.

If I got a 4-6 inch lift kit, would I be able to keep my Bilstein 5100s if so would you recommend doing so?

I’ve heard a lot of things regarding ball joints going bad with certain lifts, anyway to prevent that from happening?

thanks all for your opinions and help.

You can keep the Bilstein’s, however yes you will mess with your angles and your ride will suck. Only way to get away from this is if you do like a BDS lift for example. They supply a front differential drop bracket to prevent any bad angles and new tie rods and other stuff.

So I’m looking at some of the kits on the BDS website. What is the different between coil over and not coil over?

It appears that the the 4 inch BDS lift cannot be used with the OE 17 or 18 inch wheels. I’d like to keep my wheels stock. I saw a guy the other day at the gas station with a midnight Z71 with about a 4-6 inch lift. He had factory 18 inch wheels on, so I’m wondering what kind of lift he had. I wanted to ask him but I couldn’t get his attention.

Talk to @TXGREEK, he has given me a lot of information about the CST 4.5" lift kit and how well it goes in with our stock equipment that doesn't widen track width or mess with any angles. I'm working on picking up this kit for myself when I pull the trigger on a lift kit. You will be able to keep your Bilstein's and they will work great as long as they're rated to handle a 4.5" lift. If not you may need bigger rear shocks if they aren't long enough. But don't quote me on that, I'm new to all of this, so he will be your best source of info.

Here’s the extremely durable and heavy duty CST 4.5” Lift, allows you to keep your stock wheels and tires and up to 34”-35” tires. Doesn’t give that ugly poking out look, doesn’t widen your track width or turning radius, welded on gussets reinforcement and yes, it’s a real lift for off-roading. Uses your existing front shocks but will need new rear ones for the new 3” blocks it comes with, recommend Bilstein 5100’s for the 3” blocks

Depends on what you want to spend. You can accomplish what you want with most of the well known companies out there that are basically of the same quality. BDS, Fabtech, CST, and etc will get it done. You can also choose from different companies when it comes to shocks/struts/UCAs and stuff. Personally I go with a McGaughy and King suspension setup, but it can get expensive.
