Towing help

Hi, I’m considering trading my current Sierra for a 2020 Sierra Denali with the 3.0 Duramax. The truck has 3.23 gears and giver of 7200 lbs. crew cab. WHAT CAN I TOW????? I can’t get an honest answer from the dealer, everything from the dealer is 10,000 lbs. Any information would be greatly appreciated!

Depends on how the truck is setup but I believe max towing is somewhere around 9300 lbs

If you are looking at the actual truck on the dealer lot, there is a sticker inside the drivers door that gives you all the information you need for towing...

Thank you, the truck isn’t at my dealer, it’s at another dealer. I’m sure it will tow 9000 lbs minimum regardless so I’m guessing I’ll be fine.

  The 10spd seems like the better trans and is used in the dmax trucks.  The trans gearing has alot to do with the higher axle gearing used now. It's not like the old 4-6spd trucks.  With it being a diesel the gears aren't usually used since diesels aren't necessarily  high rpm motors. 9k with a 1500 is pretty good i would think.  People with gas trucks complain about 7200...lol..until they need to tow that uphill and use every # on the tac..

Hi, this truck has the 10 speed. 3.0 Duramax. I agree that the 10 speed is a much better fit for towing and just about anything else in this truck. That’s why I figure I’d be safe to tow the 9000 lb mark if I had to.

One has to wonder how the drivetrain, brakes, and frame are up to the challenge, considering you can’t even put 1000 lbs in the bed without it significantly sagging on majority of 1/2 ton pickups.
 

when you look at the build of a 1/2 ton vs. 3/4 ton, there is no comparison.
