For you folks with  the new 6.6 what sort of mpg are you seeing running down the road at speeds around 80? Here in Montana thats the speed limit on the interstate and I know with my 17 duramax there was about a 3-5mpg difference between running 70 and 80. Im looking for a pickup that will tow my small 5th wheel and cargo trailer occasionally as well as make a decent daily driver. Right now im between a gas 2500 AT4 and f250 fx4 or tremor with the 7.3.

If your gonna tow 80 because thats the limit, your mileage is gonna be bad. At 65 with minimal wind I have averaged just over 9 mpg in the south and midwest, including some appalachian towing. I have towed 3200 mi of the 7800 total miles on the truck. Low tank average was 8.1 through southern ky. and north tennessee in heavy rain. Best 10.1 heading north from southern keys toward miami, "ideal conditions". Most tanks where mid 9's. I doubt you get above 7 on any tank at that speed regardless of truck. Unless 5th wheel is under 13' tall and less than 10k, then maybe a little better.  Let us know if you pull trigger regardless of make.

Oh no sorry I guess i should have worded that better. Towing will be 70 tops because of trailer tires. The 80mph comment was running empty. 70% of the pickups life will be running down the interstate here in Montana

For Folks that order do you pay full sticker or does the dealer take anything off? Talking to a few dealers here they obviously want to move what they currently have and basically say we can order anything if you want to pay for it.

They only use what incentives/promotions are valid at the time of delivery.  Otherwise no they don't haggle on ordered vehicles.

Hi Everyone,

I see there are many good questions, thoughts, comments on here about the new gm hd trucks with the 6.6 gas. I also hear comments, questions, elsewhere in person and online about these new trucks but not many speaking from actual experience. I own one of these new trucks and have to say it has been great and love the truck, i purchased a 2020 chevy 2500HD LT Z71 crew cab with 6' 10" box with the 6.6 gas engine, w snowplow prep package and gvwr 10,650 lbs. I use this truck everyday for commercial use and tow trailers every single working day. The truck has performed beyond my expectations. Plenty of power and torque, capability and the fuel economy  can be excellent, i feel this gas hd truck engine is a game changer in this market, i have put 22,000 miles on this truck and my best mpg was 21.9 mpg unloaded driving at speeds of 55 to 60mph, worst mpg 7.5mpg was pulling a 33ft travel trailer 9,000 lbs across north dakota with 25 mph + headwinds with gusts, average mpg highway unloaded is 18 to 20 mpg depending on fuel, wind, speed, driving habits other variables, average towing pulling rvs which drag tons of wind and hurt mpg greatly is 8.5 to 10.5 with 6,000 to 12,000 campers. I also changed stock tires for LT 275/70/18 cooper discoverer st (33") which is same size as stock but aggressive, my favorite truck tire the past 20 years. I have a 36 gallon tank and unloaded have drove up to and over 600 miles on a single tank.

Looking at the 2020's.  My only question was the 2 x 4 or the 4 x 4 as it pertains to gas mileage.  I hardly ever would use the 4x4 but it would be nice to have if it didn't drive mpg down to much. I pull a trailer like you just about everyday.  Your info that you posted is with pulling trailer in 2 wheel drive, right?

I always go 4x4 even if it’s rarely used. Better to have it and not need it instead of needing it and not having it.
Resale value is higher as well and the 1mpg difference (if that) is Negligible.

I went to 2wd but almost got 4x4.....it is true that better to have than not, hopefully wont kick myself in ass one day but haven't used it in 20 yrs so, but I am under 1k miles on my 2020 and getting around 15 mpg empty....12-13 in city and 16 on hwy.....my guage says 15 so FWIW in so cal....

4x4 is good for towing.  Example: Towing with my old half ton, I got into a few spots where I needed to use 4-High when I couldnt get traction from dead stop or got trailer stuck in wet grass that quickly turned into mud.

My 01 Dually was 2wd. Had it almost 20 years there was a few times I could have WELL MY WIFE COULD HAVE  used  4wd  she does 90% of towing the horse trailers. Some times you get in the mud or wet grass at a horse show. Started out thinking another 2wd but  went with 4wd this time 2020 SLT 3500 DRW only about 2600 bucks more. The new 4 wheel auto will be nice, and there's resale value not that I am   ever going to sell it  but someone might.
