I seen the relay bank under the dash for each switch, so there is no reason to wire in a relay for a lightbar? Just use the wire lead for whichever switch i want?

The gauge of wire isn’t that big, which had me believe that I would need to wire in a relay before my light. Confusing as it seems redundant to have two relays if the under dash ones wont carry the load.

Folks with the upfitter switches, I have installed them twice now.  The first time I just connected all of my wires under the dash but this time I made a harness using 12AWG, connected to the 5 wires for the switches and ran this harness back into the engine bay.  Basically did not like the first time around routing all of the wire etc. from the cab, just wanted a nice play to do it similar to like what the Fords have done with their upfitter switches.

I have a water tight box, a distribution block, and plenty of wire to place pretty much anywhere under the hood.

Has anyone else done anything like this and are there any suggestions of good place to mount something like I have described .  My first install was with my 2019 1500 the second is with my 2021 2500HD with the dual battery with tray, minus the battery- 🙂 .

I am thinking maybe somewhere over in that part of the hood, but really seeking other's ideas.

I am assuming many who have installed the upfitters wished like me my first time around that I could have had a way to do something under the hood versus the dash, everytime I wanted to add something.

Going to add a little more to this topic for future folks that are looking for information.

Being that this is the second time I have done this, I learned one big thing, label the wires and maybe even go as far as label, provide notes.  While the fuse cover has some of this information, it is not necessarily the easiest, so I used my label marker and made labels with the information in the picture attached.

The elusive Switch 5 wire, there are several youtube videos out there that will tell you about this wire.  Unless you need the beacon, cutting the wire does nothing bad, just tape off the side of the harness plug or detach the pin in the plug and pull it out .  One note, it does not require the ignition switch to be turned on.
 

I also found that it looks like the wire is 12 or 14AWG.  The first time around I ran 16AWG the items I wanted to power,  I won't do that again.

Hopefully this bit of information is helpful to someone down the road.

Does anyone have a parts list for adding the auxiliary switches to a 2024 RST?  I've found the kit (link below), but I would really like to have a breakdown of the required parts.

I haven't found the voltage/amperage that the switches can support.  I would like to hardwire a GMRS radio to one of the switches instead of running the wire through the firewall and wire it to the battery or fuse box.  The radio has an inline fuse but I don't know if it's too much for a switch.  The current power is a 12 V power cord with cigarette lighter adapter.  Please advise if possible.

The switch supplies a ground for the relays. Depending on which switch relay, they are fused at 20amp and 30 amp.

Switch 2&3 are fused at 20 amp, 1,4 and 5 are fused at 30 amp.

 

You can replace the fuse with a smaller amp rating if wanted.

My truck was built with the switch panel installed from the factory 2021 GMC AT4 3500. Just need the labels. I have LED bumper lights wired (no labels) and I’m adding an in bed fuel transfer tank and want the pump switched and labeled. Where are the labels sold?

FYI… the upfitter parts for the 2025s (Denali Ultimate, and I'm assuming the Denali, AT4, and AT4X) will fit the 2024. I ordered the center console cup holder with the cutout for the switches and installed it and the fuse box today. I still need to route the main wire from the battery. I couldn't locate the mounting location for the fuse box, though, so I'll have to wait for the upfitter update for the Denali trims.

I have the upfitter switches and everything completely installed, and have been using them for a while, however I needed to add an aftermarket trailer brake controller, and lo and behold, it uses the exact same grey connector (BCM) as the upfitter switches..... 

Anyone have any ideas if I can make a Y cable and plug both in at the same time to that grey port, or if i can just splice the wires together and use one plug? (controller only has 4 wires, upfitter uses almost all of them) or is there some other option or place to plug in the brake controller or different connector I need?

Go back to the beginning and read Bill’s instructions. He talks about the extra wires that come out of the fuse box that are for an aftermarket brake controller. They are taped to the wiring harness, out of the way. I think there were 3 wires.

    • are there any codes? with lots of rust, perhaps disconnect/clean both sides of the connection/examine cable ends (the wires) for corrosion going into the sheath & replace if necessary/reconnect ALL the power AND ground cables between the battery, engine, frame, cab, fuse box and starter charm.li (website) has a no-start diagnostic procedure you can work through to get it working.
    • Its no wonder you've gravitated to the oil types and brands you have in later years after trying certain brands and one being a specialty oil or at least very hard to come by up here and the other would have been a commonly found oil of the era and the vastly different outcomes as a result to using the vehicles in question the same distance for an OCI . It shows what marketing hype can do without actually having the product to back up the claims and that is no different now with the insane claims that are written on the side of a bottle of oil from some of the off the shelf oils.    What has surprised me and I was already finding this out before I bought my truck with the GDI engine, that this newer fancy technology that seemingly would suggest better fuel economy/emissions with this high pressure spray of fuel is not in reality kind at all to the engine or at least the oils life. Yet they insist on claiming long OCI with this technology just like they did with the port or similar type fuel injection systems when in reality its a step back in oil life to have a GDI system.    I think the mistake your making Grumpy is that your not sending your samples to Blackstone and getting the feel good glowing report that you can run it another 1000 or more miles and then send another sample where they say run it yet another 1000 miles and on and on it goes until your sending in something that looks a lot like road tar and then they may suggest you change your oil within the next 1000 miles 😆
    • I am guessing that engines of that design back then had a better ability to be abused and survive longer than a new design engine with the long timing chain and the overhead cams and phasers etc. But I would never guess that an engine could go that far and not fail spectacularly or at least die a slow death. 
    • In the 80's 90's I'd run Honda's 7,500 miles between changes using Red Line HP 5W20 and do it for hundreds of thousands of miles with issues. Back in the day it was an SAE 20 with the HTHS of a SAE 30 and SN add load. It was also very polar. Oxidation VOA was over 120. Besides those motors were SPFI and lean burn tech. I could have likely run it longer but never did.    We had a Toyota bought new I ran on Pennzoil's latest and greatest synthetic of the day with "Penthane". A made up word for a very low dose of PAO. Tried 7,500 mile OCI's in that Group III/VI chemistry and the rings tapped out at 90K. Rocker box wasn't as bad as the one Punch put up but it wasn't good either. Also a SPFI motor.    I'm around 3,750 across the board on these GDI monsters and the oil it tapped out by then usually on TBN/TAN crossover and color. Red Line HP Euro.    The AMSOIL SS brochures tell you to follow the OEM values for the service class but that it can be run up to 25K if monitored. I can't imagine what motor could go that distance and not tap out. I've never owned one.    Yes, I know. Lot's of people do. I'm just not going to be one of them. 
    • I knew a guy in the early 80's that bought a new Monte Carlo and ran it a 100,000 miles without ever changing the filter or the oil. Just kept adding. It looked like that inside.
