Covid19 Spare time

19.5 mpg avg @ 70-75 some 80 mph for death in family, had to drive 1200 miles in 22' Trail Boss 2.7L.  For a Custom it's awful comfortable.  Faster than I have run it consistently.  Scanner on timing shows 88 octane an ideal. VP racing fuels 91 octane/pure gasoline gave best performance mixed with CENEX 87.

This boat pushes a lot of air....LOL  Coming home we will cruise slower.

Supposed to be 106, give or take a degree, for a few days around here. Guess I'll be frying my eggs outside

Rain and more rain is our forecast!  I wouldn't mind except rain limits using my trike as a fuel saving alternative!

Here's some truth dated a bit but your crime is consistent with COVID isolation, like car accidents are.  You are much more likely down here in the exceptional US death zone than Canuckland.

i just thought the kid getting knocked down by the ball was on point to the future Zooomer generation

those murder rates are under reported by Law enforcement. there's way more action going on..

If there is no body to be found, there is nothing to report.  you might try looking up missing people stats then you might see the real murder stats

The link was blocked. There’s enough secret squirrel 🐿 conspiracy theories put out. Dealing with children being mowed down in school here in US is real not made up stuff we have to deal with.

Sometimes it is hard to keep upbeat with a constant stream of crappy big issues in our faces.  I believe the quantity of serious stuff has always been significant but our awareness has exploded.    World news isn't something we learn by reading the newspaper after a long day at work over a couple of cold beers.  "News" is constant.  The Covid years further entrenched the steady news stream of world  tragedies concentrated onto a tiny screen that we have with us 24/7.    It is important to be aware and not keep "our head in the sand".   However, it is imperative that we maintain our own well-being and balance the big issues with a healthy day to day existence.  "Put on our oxygen masks first."   This thread is a place to share how we use our time productively.  Covid sparked a lot of spare time for many and a different routine for most.  Some of these habits or routines are here to stay.  As a personal example, pre-pandemic my wife and I would typically have a trip booked or planned to stay with one of our three grown children.  They all live full and interesting lives far away.  We felt that total immersion into their daily lives for a week or two per year was a good way to maintain a healthy bond.  Covid restrictions could have let the connections lapse and allow us to get get depressed or we could use the time and money intended for travel to deal with this issue.   We chose the latter and enhanced our knowledge of communication strategies from 2000 to 2022.  Our family connections "post pandemic"  are more continuous and "natural".  This doesn't  replace the need for in-person visits but will change the dynamics when we visit.

Well stated Donstar.    I would change this quote; " "News" is constant. " to miss-information via propaganda social media and mostly OANN, NewsMax, and FOX " news" commentators.

In our lifetimes we have never seen mass information at this rate and cycle all pointing us to populist NON CONSERVATIVE fascist brainwashing.  This is not a political statement its historical.

US CPAC going to Hungary and Orban's Putin boot licking proves my thesis.......and permanently turned me away from popular US or western conservative thought about the time Gary Johnson lost in the 2016 election. When I saw my fellow mostly younger libertarian fellows turn to the orange julius I knew we were screwed.

its a rabit hole, if your in no position of power to do anything about then yur better off with yur head in the sand...

Even in Canada your vote counts, thats why the miss information tells you its of no use.  Every generation goes through this cycle of the little guy being screwed by the OTHER.......democracy is messy and it takes unified voices to make change by voting. The alternative is death and destruction.

Your grandparents learned that in WWI and WWII and the fact the current generations seems to have forgotten that struggle against fascism and militarism is dangerous.

I post here just to give my experience with Covid. Just after the first wave we proceeded our life as normal as possible only missed one trip east to visit my father in law. We wore mask where required and made our pit stops at truck stops instead of fast food restaurants. I got the vaccine my wife didn’t as side effects were being reported. When the second round of Covid hit more people I knew got it than not around Christmas. We hosted our normal thanksgiving and Christmas in waves not all at once. Monday after Christmas I got Covid three days later my wife got it. No one we hosted got it. I got worse vaccinated than my wife who’s not. Everyone young and old including my 92 year old father in law who’s even boosted got it. With the exception of my 40 year old daughter who has co- morbidities experience flu like symptoms mostly mild. I don’t interact with that many people other than family or at church. Even during trips even casinos. I’m a weekday warrior one of the pleasures of retirement. My wife is the people person. The only thing I really changed ultimately. I wash my hands more and scratch my face with my glasses. There’s enough data out there on who’s the most at risk, live life accordingly. The op is probably more at risk on his bike than from Covid. At least he’s enjoying it.

I strive to minimize risks of getting Covid and crashing my trike 🙂.    In a convoluted way, my new trike is a product of living through the Covid experience.   A lot of our (wife & I) time and effort was/is spent on making the best of what we have within our control.  The shut downs, shortages, fears, protests, etc. of the pandemic experience strengthened our resolve to improve upon the things within our power.   We were in a comfortable retirement lifestyle which was seriously disrupted early in 2020.  The aftermath and subsequent world events are not reducing our strategy of seeking happiness within situations under our control.   I keep informed of the big picture items but I still have to deal with my current personal environment.  Remaining "happy" is paramount.  Asking others to share their routine changes on this thread has shown we're not alone.  Impact from Covid is continuing to happen to most of us in varying degrees.   For example:  We keep lists of household items we need to buy.  Today we are taking care of our Costco list.  There is nothing on this list that we will need this week.  We don't stockpile but, unlike pre-pandemic, we don't wait until we run out of necessities before we go to the store.   I can bet there are millions of people who keep more ahead of their  TP supply than they did pre 2020!  It would be interesting to hear from others who recognize a particular change in their behaviors resulting from Covid.

I was real close to outfitting a small trailer with a restroom and cooler at the beginning of Covid. And putting a transfer tank in my truck for gas. Just so we could visit my 90 year old father in law. Luckily the restrictions were lifted enough here we were able to visit soon enough. Everyone everywhere was doing 6feet, masks and hand cleaner. Otherwise away we went. Amusingly now. I got Covid Christmas Eve at church from a hug from a lady who never hugged me before. I’ve never been a hugger. She had symptoms the next day, three days later I had it. We always have 6 months of food around minimum. All cars full of gas. A gas, wood fire place. Even though I live in a tropical area I never had a generator. I’ll have one in the next two weeks. And I’ll pick up a spare transfer tank from the shop. I’m hearing a lot of talk of rolling blackouts. My Covid spare time has shifted gears.

The restroom trailer idea is a good one regardless of restrictions.  One of the best parts of our travel trailer days was not relying on the cleanliness of others and not worrying when we will make it to the next pit stop.  However, recently I've learned about Buc-ee's.  I'd make a special road trip just to use their legendary facilities!
