We lost a aged cousin on the wife's side to complications from COVID-19 yesterday. He cleared the virus but the pneumonia it gave him he gave in to. Got the news this AM.

Please, continue to be careful.

I'm sorry for your loss, Grumpy.   Your post serves as a reminder that although restrictions are lifted, Covid didn't go away.  Personally, I am impacted more now than when restrictions were in full force. Neighbours on both sides of us have recently tested positive along with a few friends and relatives.  It is so simple to keep your distance and to wear a mask when you can't.  People debate the effectiveness of these strategies but they do reflect an overall effort to reduce spread.  Example:  Yesterday, while waiting at a dealership for my Trike to be fixed, I observed a friendly female employee hug acquaintances and/or colleagues on a few occasions.   It was her style and not inappropriate in a pre-pandemic environment.  The absence of masks and social distancing at this Harley Davidson dealership was discouraging.  However, when I put on my mask, I felt my personal space was respected by all.  My behavior may not garner me a hug from friendly acquaintances but I've managed to avoid Covid so far.   I appreciate that for many, getting Covid is uneventful but there are too many with extreme and/or long lasting consequences for me to ignore basic prevention behaviours.

I generally don’t get close to anyone but family. That’s usually where you transfer illnesses. All the traveling I did-do even during Covid. I got it from a church member from a Christmas Eve hug.

I wish a speedy recovery for your daughter. ^^  We have a friend we're visiting on Thursday who has just recovered from Covid.  She is older and her experience wasn't kind.  My neighbours, a family of four, all tested positive a couple of weeks ago. Two were very ill and two felt very little discomfort.  Weird!   I continue to avoid risks in an effort to reduce my chances of getting Covid.  One of the takeaways from the Covid experience is being able to be careful without feeling like a snob.  If I don't wish a hug or a handshake people don't get offended.  If I wear a mask nobody questions or jeers.  However, the greatest takeaway from the experience of the past couple of years is the time to think about different strategies to make the best out of what we have.  Anything I can do to prevent an avoidable illness and enjoy each and every day receives my attention.  I may not always listen to myself but I try to keep risks low. 😉

Thank you. I had a WTH moment this Sunday. The same person who gave me Covid gave me a hug again. Not my thing.  I do the fits bump. My daughter is recovering swiftly. Two of her kids are away. Her son stays in the converted garage on his computer.

My friends wife has it. She caught it from her family reunion last week. Bad thing is she has been unable to be vaccinated due to her reaction the drug. Here's hoping it's mild and she can fight it off

At my work only the vaccinated continue to catch and spread covid among themselves. We have one guy twice shot and twice boosted who just got done with covid bought number 4. I don't know, i think most who took the vaccine have damaged their own immune systems, just my opinion from what i'm seeing.

I wrote a letter and attached it to a Birthday card yesterday morning.  Later in the day I took it to a mailbox in hopes it will arrive in time.   I am sure that the novelty of receiving a handwritten letter in the mail will be viewed as a gift by the recipient.  It should because it took considerable time and effort!   The fact that dropping a card in the mail has morphed into such an event during my adult life reflects how rapidly change happens,  However this is also an example of how the time we've freed up gets gobbled up!

Personal time and space has been taken away from most people. The cell phone is a blessing and a curse. If you hold off on giving them to children until they learn to self entertain. It’s a blessing. Parental engagement is needed more now than ever because of electronics. My wife called me from the store yesterday. She was getting a watermelon. She asked attendant for help. Evidently it’s a trigger word for her phone. It proceeded to call 911. I’m not kidding. Next thing she knew she got a call back from the police.  Imagine if she got in her car and was surrounded by police. Blessing or curse? She usually runs errands for her mother. They’ll be discussing where she’s going to shop, it’s not always the same place. She’ll get in the car what pops up on phone? The best route and the length of time to get there. Our granddaughter is named Alexa. She has a nick name now. I call her hey google.😎

Our Texan family will be arriving next week for a visit.  This will be the first time we've been together since Jan. 2020.  We are very excited but not in the same way as if this was 40 years ago.   Technology has made a huge impact on long distance communication and relationships.  Those of us who have spent time as adults before home computers appreciate the difference.  I know a person in her 70's who has shunned personal computers and cell phones to this day.   Spending time with her reinforces my appreciation for being connected!

We received pictures yesterday of a grandchild taking a driving lesson on his parents' High Country.   This was cute and supports the continuous and real time communication I mentioned in my previous post. After the initial grandparent comments I wondered why  these pictures didn't show a compact sized driving school car?  During my uncommitted time I often surf through YouTube.  The other day I watched a few called something like, "Idiots behind the wheel".  These were dash cam or other devices capturing car accidents.  Some are unfortunate accidents but too many are a result of poor driving.  We all develop poor/lazy driving habits and should not be passing these on to our kids.  I went back to Driving School for my motorcycle endorsement at 60 years old.  I went to class confident that I was professionally trained with 44 years of experience.   If you haven't had a "refresher" in awhile you may be shocked at what you don't know. I was!

Why Airline Pilot in Command pro's get a checkride in a simulator every 6-8 mo's now, a training session lasting a week online or in person and an aural exam. Not to mention a first class physical every 6 months.  90% of the population won't or couldn't pass this level of scrutiny IMHO.  My pro level ended at 52.....for physical reasons. The mind quickly followed down the tubes.
