Covid19 Spare time

My wife grew up as an army brat. Traveling a lot, many different schools and friends. It’s amazing how her life experience is so different than mine. It’s a life within a life. The only place where socialism actually works. There pay is close to the same as their housing.  The reason all that works was common goal of protecting our country. Up until her parents divorce when she was 14 it was like a 50s sitcom. She had a wonderful life. I’ve noticed that if you come from a larger family. The difference in perception in a given family is different from the oldest to youngest growing up. I’m 10 years older than my youngest sibling. My experience even though I have no complaints. Is of struggling to make ends meat while my father builds his business. While my two younger siblings have memories of a large farm. And showing horses across country. Riding around in Cadillacs and the finest clothes. I had a different experience. Amazing when my family moved to Texas to start over. They were able to help build from scratch another successful life and business. My wife had a bit of a struggle initially. Living in that bubble where everything is pretty much the same. Starting from scratch was a new experience. Much like our leaders are experiencing now. Getting forced out of a bubble into reality is challenging. I imagine even though rose colored glasses. People are remembering the past with fondness while drifting to sleep. Rather than trying to figure out their next move the next day in these challenging times.

Not exactly what I was referring to but okay....

I thought your comment was simply stating the obvious and I responded by telling a short personal story. I may sound convoluted  but there is a lot of past wrongs being dealt with from the settlement of our country.  It can lead to political or cultural discussions that I don't want here.  If I provide factual, personal observations, nobody should be offended or triggered to go political.  The message related to this thread's topic is the amount of Covid Spare time I've spent applying my past experiences to optimize the making of future memories. You, like me, have more time spent in the past than we have in our futures.  We definitely don't want or need to repeat previous mistakes!

Received and understood. By your leave. 😉

On Sunday my brother sent out a picture of our childhood family home being prepared for demolition.  The news came as a surprise.   The subsequent upset running through family emails was considerable.  The house hasn't been in our family for decades and it was subsequently used as a rental investment.  It was in poor condition and it wasn't a particularly well built house when it was new.  It took me some effort to convince the most upset family members that it's the memories that they value and nobody can take those away.  This story demonstrated the wonderful way our memories embellish things and events of the past.  We sometimes strive for past ways or things that best stay as memories.

I'd rather the house be gone than possibly see it in disrepair with cars on blocks in the front yard. I went through this with one of my houses. Still pisses me off if I happen to pass by, they've let it go to ******

We picked up my sister and brother-in-law from the airport last night.  They came back from a post Covid three week trip to Europe.  My wife and I discussed making an effort to follow Covid protocols at the facility beforehand which included wearing masks.  Our intentions were as good as the proverbial sticking your finger in the ocean hoping to leave a dent. The masks came off early with hugs and close talk rampant.  I woke up this morning feeling like I'd misbehaved at a party last night.  I don't blame anyone but myself.  However this incident reinforces my support for Covid protocols in public venues for I am human. ( I am not seeking a discussion on mandates). Most of us who have made it to our senior years know there is some good luck required and there is no need for unnecessary risks!

Good news is that if one is fully vaccinated ( adult would have 4 shots)  they are protected from the worst of results. However B5 and other covid variants have replicated and mutated because most of the world is NOT VACCINATED so until we get a general covid vax we are stuck as elderly, infirmed, at risk with bearing the worst of the pandemic results.  Those that choose in our wonderful western nations not to take full vaccinations will spread it, not be resistant to the new variants, and get and give it over and over while killing or harming those who are ill already.

The world is full of experts. I’ve seen and read some studies suggesting the shots actually cause some mutations. Medication for treating the effects is the best course. According to some experts. My experience has been that young and old family members and friends. The worst effected was my 45 year old daughter. That includes many over 80 years old family members and friends. My daughter has lupus. She was in a coma for 3 days. She’s going through physical stuff but actually brain function has improved. She’s had several concussions from a car accident. Fell down stairs from lupus problems. In her younger days was a kick boxer, unknown to us. I actually got sicker from my second Covid shot than when I actually got Covid. The second round. As a precaution we’ve asked our doctor awhile ago what medication choices do have if we got Covid again. After personal research we are satisfied with those choices. Like many people who have been affected. I’ve seen young, old, fat, thin get this. I have chosen to live my life according to what I’ve witnessed. So called experts be damned.

Hope your Daughter continues on the road to recovery and keeps fighting. Lupus is really tough.  As far as experts. It doesn't take an expert to understand basic virology.

Thank you. They call it practicing medicine for a reason.

Last year the allergy season was brutal. At my yearly doctor visit for my blood pressure medication. I asked about a allergy meds compatible with my other medication. I inadvertently mentioned before I could catch myself I’m having chest pressure from allergies. Oh no a trigger word, chest pressure. Once I took over the counter allergy meds it would go away, but it was too late. Off to a cardio doctor I go. After 6 months of all the fun heart test I get a clean bill of health and the recommended allergy medication. After allergy season. I got practice on and my insurance company got the bill.

My Doctor of many years retired last year. There is a shortage of family Doctors so I now have to rely on seeking care from whoever is available at a clinic.  I am luckier than most as I've had the time to schedule my appointments in such a way as to see the same clinic Doctor for my past few visits.  It is proving to be advantageous to see new Doctors as they bring fresh ideas to deal with ongoing issues. Like Karnut, I have learned to be careful with trigger words!   I don't withhold information but I am careful!

It can be tough breaking in new professionals. Doctors dentist etc. Especially auto (technicians). They sometimes forget they work for you. I remember in my 20s I blew out a knee. It was as big as a basketball. I needed a soft cast and time. In comes the nurse with a tray and this long needle. I’m like what the hell. What’s that for? Drain the fluid. I said that’s like that for a reason back off. My wife was hysterically laughing. She knew that was coming.

I admire the physical ability of your neighbor but his cognitive strength is off.  In my teens I may have attempted a load ramp angle like this...but only once!
