Do the factory radio buttons work or are they just there for looks?  I like that factory look but with the added functionality of an aftermarket radio.

I purchased the Alpine I209-GM kit time keep it somewhat factory but the way you did yours looks great.

Thx, i did not like the aftermarket bezel. The radio controls dont work. Wish the volume did, i miss the knob. Slight gap on the bottom but i will print a piece of plastic for a filler

Ended up doing the Pioneer DMH-WT8600NEX 10" head unit with full JL / Focal system

Very happy with how everything turned out. I installed new wiring throughout, just ran them over the top of the molex connector there was enough space to squeeze them in and then through the boot to the door. The sound is impressive but I'm sure bigger subs would sound better if that's your cup of tea. This has enough power to shake all the mirrors and retains space in the back, plenty of sound quality.

2014 GMC sierra SLT non-Bose sound quality build

This venture started out by simply wanting to add carplay to my truck and upgrade the speakers for some better overall sound quality. Because the stock navigation is absolute trash and I primarily use google maps on my other vehicle this was the most important consideration. I investigated the stock integration route of upgrading to a 2016 HMI but in the end I couldn’t justify the cost, in my case I would have to sell my Denali cluster and get a 2016 one to make everything work properly. The overall cost of remaining stock would be on par with a high-end aftermarket unit. Granted it’s a bit big, and I don’t NEED half the features, I still liked the overall design and felt like I was getting significantly more for my money. One of the key features that you can’t get on a lot of upgrades at this time is wireless Andriod Auto / Carplay, you don’t need to plug it in to access these features. This will be beneficial with the wireless charging center console.

Just installed mine. What im confused on is if there is a way to connect to the trucks wifi still. I dont have unlimited cell phone data and always connect to the truck wifi.

the problem seems to be when I want to use Apple car play it disconnects and I have to use wifi with the headunit. How do I do truck wifi and Apple CarPlay?

What did you just install? No aftermarket radio will use the trucks wifi. Aa and carplay are used through your cellphone

The pioneer 8600nex

i figure out the wifi issue. I have it setup to allow me to get to the browser, sports, weather, etc thru the truck wifi.

what I can’t get to work is wired Apple CarPlay. When I plug it in the phone charges so I know the usb works but it won’t allow me to do CarPlay. The only way I can do CarPlay is to connect my phones wifi to the radio hotspot. On all of our other GM cars with CarPlay standard it isn’t required so not sure if that’s an aftermarket thing or what

I just got back inside from playing around some more. I’ve disconnected the phone and repaired multiple times. I have CarPlay turned on on my phone. The phone shows up under the “iPod” input when plugged in but will not do CarPlay. When I try to connect for CarPlay I get connection failed everytime. When I did do wifi connection it worked great and sounds good. I just want wired CarPlay and can’t get it to work at all.

Try a different wire. U r using the usb connected to the radio not the usb originally from the truck
