Alignment needed on new vehicle. Thoughts?

Question for you guys. Tomorrow marks day 30 with my new 2020 Custom. I have exactly 213.7 miles on my truck (haven't driven much due to stay at home restrictions - and am still on the original delivery tank of gas!!! ).

 

When I purchased the truck, I noticed the steering wheel was not centered when driving. Given it only had 4 miles when I bought it, and the tire pressure was set to 45 - I was told to bring it back that Monday when service opened and they would take care of it.

 

Well, that Monday, I brought it back, and was told that GM says to wait 750 miles before they will align it. Does anyone know if that's really true? At this rate, it's going to be like 3-4 months before I get there, and I don't want to NOT get my alignment on GM's dime...

I get waiting some time to get things settle and such, but 750 miles seems rather long...at this point, but also don't want to wear tires any faster than it needs.  And for those asking, it pulls LEFT, not right, like you'd expect it following the crown of the road.

My 2016 needed an alignment right off the lot but I didn’t take it to have it done until the first scheduled service. So I don’t know if the 750 mile thing is accurate.

Doubt it’s going to do any harm to the tires in such a short time unless it’s undrivably out of spec. Mine were fine, but being the elcheapo lowest bidder tires GM uses, they had “had it” by 25k anyway.

Sadly appears to be normal.  My 19 was like that and so is the 20.

Exactly. Did it get fixed?

I've had 2 new trucks that had crappy alignments, the dealer in both cases aligned truck after test drive, way under 700 miles on the clock.

I simply never bothered to complain about it.  I know their routine ..  wait, then its your fault.

 

Good news is that tire wear was perfect. LOL

Wait for it to settle? Why? All new vehicles are aligned by the manufacturer before they move two feet.

 

The more important point to check first is centralization - Use a parking lot, set the steering wheel position so the car is going exactly straight ahead on flat portion. Stop and then rotate the steering wheel full left and then full right and note exactly how many revolutions it can make in each direction......they should be identical regardless of the initial position of the steering wheel spokes and require tie rod adjustments in addition of any steering wheel or tire positioning

This is good feedback here. Will give it a try tomorrow.

My 2015 was out of spec on the lot. GM gave the 'wait' and  I took it to my guy. (I only go to GM for recalls) There's aligned "within factory spec" and then there is aligned right. I've had it checked twice since. Once after I installed the King/Bell setup and once when I changed spring rates. Now at 113,000 on the OEM 'crap box' Bridgestone tires with a good ways to do. They will literally date out before they wear out. Also has a HUGE impact on fuel efficiency. Nokia tire, one of the oldest, says rotation ever 3-5K and get ****** about tire pressures. I balance every other service. Just standard spin. No 'road force' ferry dust.  Has worked for me. When I buy my next set the shop does free rotations. 

 

Honda told me my 2006 Civic was in spec. Eating tires every 10-12K. Then...well....control arm length is not right so replaced. Ate tires every 8K. (Replacements were actually worse) MOOG adjustable upper rear control arms and MY NUMBERS. 80-100K per set since.

This must be common,  I have a 2020 AT4 I just purchased and noticed mine is slightly to the right. Purchased the truck with 13 miles on it. Tracks straight with no pull, just drives me nuts not being completely centered.

You do know this is EPS right? It's a two minute fix.
