So I drove a 2020 Sierra 2500 the other day and fell in love w/ the truck, the price however felt more like a divorce settlement... Maybe not quite that bad but definitely more money than I want to pay for a truck. I am trying to get from my double cab 1500 lease into a 3/4 crew cab, so I know the first one is gonna hurt a little but a new GM seems like a bit too much pain... Which brings me to my sacra-religious post topic, A new Dodge or Ram or whatever they are called now prices out less than what I am seeing 3 or 4 year old used GM's listed for. The newer used Ram's are subsequently cheaper as well.

I've never owned a Mopar and I realize that there is more than likely a reason that the price is cheaper BUT I also prefer a new truck, especially for what you have to give for a used 2500 crew cab...  I suppose I have two questions:

1- Does anybody have an Dodge/Ram horror stories that drove them back to GM?

2- Did those horror stories happen before or after your warranty ended?  The idea of whatever I buy next is to get me into something that I can trade towards a new GMC in 3 or 4 years.

If I stay GM I would like to be 2016 or newer preferably gas but I wouldn't run from a diesel. I'm not opposed to a 2015 but I know that there is a build date issue, so I would like to avoid that.

June 2019 I bought a 2017 certified pre owned Sierra 2500HD gas and love it.
This was a good compromise between new, and used with high mileage and no warranty.

Less $ than new but with warranty, dealer and factory support if I need it.

Ram is making an overall good product and many like their interior better. They may take the lead in variety of storage spaces hidden throughout the truck too.

Overall longevity is likely not as good but you already acknowledged this in your resale comments.

From personal experience and what you read on here, it's new/used/rebuilt/junkyard RAM for the win.  Especially if it's a Power Wagon.

I went from a RAM to a 2019 L5P. The 68RFE trans in the Cummins is junk. Just hated how it shifted. And death wobble from the solid front axle sucks. And mine had a highway speed vibration I couldn’t ever get rid of. Aside from that, it was a badass truck

Talking me into that used GM... I was looking at new 6.4's w/ the 8 speed but I really haven't jumped at anything yet. I've got a few more lease payments to go so I am gonna make them hope some more used inventory starts popping up.

If the new RAM model fixed the issues I had, there’s a good chance I’d take one over my Chevy. Just to put that out there.

Depending on Trim, used may be more than new.

RAM is cheaper. I know a few who have them and they are nice trucks (both own gas models).

I considered a new Ram, but the GM is just more comfortable. I had a 2015 Sierra 1500, upgraded to a 2015 Silverado 2500 at lease-end. I owned it 2.5 years and traded up to a used 2019 Denali HD.

The HD is pricey. But they hold value - after only 2 years I still got more than owed on Silverado for trade-in. I was going to get a new 2500 work truck, but my buddy called when he took Denali on trade.

My Silverado had 45k miles and was about out of warranty. Probably should have just kept it - I haven't had any issues with any of my full-size GM trucks.

I currently have a 2017 Ram with the 5.7, rides like a car and has plenty of power. I'd say overall Dodge makes a very nice product. I'm also currently shopping for a larger rig to pull our camper. I'll give you a bit of advice. While shopping, the used 2500's maintained their prices even into the high mileage, I'm guessing because this platform is the blend of heavy duty and everyday comfort that most people look for. I switched over to looking at 1-ton work truck trade ins and was able to find much better deals. For $30k I was seeing 3/4 tons with 90-100k miles, while 1 ton work truck trade ins only have 50k for the same price. The one I'm buying even came with a v-plow and sander

Prices have crept up lately with the demand I guess...  I'm hoping for 30 thousand miles or so but my budget is looking more like 50,000 miles on whatever I get.  Still not a lot of trucks around locally.  I have been considering a Ram 2500 lease but I'm not sold yet...

Nothing wrong with 50k miles, thats usually 3-5 years old so you're prob talking about 1 owner, and the warranty was still valid while they owned it. Then you can buy it at a discount and put another 75k on it and trade up before it goes into the "keeping it running" years

This is about where I am at... I'm gonna make a few calls on some certified trucks tomorrow and maybe a RAM, See who is interested in making a deal.  If nobody is I'll just keep making lease payments, and see where I end up closer to fall.

I have a 2012 Ram 2500 with the Cummins 6.7 Diesel. 800 ft lbs of torque. Very few issues with it I love it. It hauls our 5th wheel like its not even there. The first truck I ever owned that I can set the cruise control on while towing and it maintains the set speed going up hills or down. Exhaust brake kicks in going downhill. And with this year no DPF fluid adding with passive regeneration.
