In a 2020 model, using a USB flash drive is basically plugging it in and giving the Infotainment head unit a few minutes to analyze the files and then you choose the flash drive as the source and hit the play button.  You can get this SanDisk 32GB Ultra Fit USB 3.1 Flash Drive for $7.99 at Amazon.

Any special format or special way that the files need to be in??

No special format needed.  Just put your songs into folders - about 125 songs per folder works well for me.  Name the folders so you can find the type of music you're looking for at any particular moment.  The infotainment center will read and play the music on the USB drive when it's inserted in a USB port.  I use the port in the center console and close the lid.  You're ready to go at that point.

How large of USB have you been able to use?? I'm going to try 32G and see if it can support them.

Thx....

Playing from a USB
A USB mass storage device can be connected to the USB port.
Audio extensions supported by the USB may include:
. FLAC
. MP3
. AAC
. OGG
. 3GP

File System and Naming
File systems supported by the USB may include:
. FAT32
. NTFS
. HFS+
The songs, artists, albums, and genres are taken from the file’s song information and are only
displayed if present.

The radio displays the file name as the track name if the song information is not available.

Just bought a 2019 Yukon. Plugged in a USB flash drive with my prerecorded music I was using in my 2014 Yukon and it played in the 2019 just like in the 2014.

Now the 2019 won’t play or even recognize the flash drive. Also, I pair my android cell phone to the 2019. But every time I get in it is no longer paired.

Some sort of software issue? How can I resolve it?

I found on my wonderful (being sarcastic here) infotainment POS radio that it does NOT automatically recognize a USB plugged in, you have to hit the 'more' button before the USB symbol lights up and then it plays fine.
