Tow mirrors.

Anyone know if you can switch out the 2020 SLT Premium Plus non tow mirrors out for the tow mirrors? Just bought a trailer and they are a little on the small side. Would they be a direct swap? Thanks.

It did this on a 2007 Tahoe, so my knowledge may not be up to par. Iirc, you need an appropriate door window switch for the mirrors, and a reflash of the BCM. My truck came from the factory with the tow mirrors, so I'd go the opposite direction if I did this.

You can't do the kit mirrors as they won't work with any of the safety features your truck has like the blind spot indicators.

 

You'd have to get individual mirrors that match your truck configuration and potentially change out the door wiring harnesses.

That's good to know. Thanks! I'm buying a Trail Boss with the tow mirrors already installed. Just agreed on terms about an hour ago. Now to wait for the truck to arrive.

My 2020 LTZ Crew Cab has standard power mirrors with blind spot warning and Lane Change worning.

I just learned that GM currently does not have a Trailering mirror/harness set if you have these features.

 

I hate to think I have to buy mirror extender caps until GM has the correct Trailering mirrors/harnesses available for my truck.

With trailering mirrors you don't need those features. You're able to see what's in your blind spot.

For what it's worth the tow mirrors create blind spots left & right. I ordered my truck with these and wish I didn't.

I have them too. I don't regret buying the truck with them, but the extra width is a factor worth considering when going to places like the carwash. All mirrors create blind spots. So do the A pillars, but we manage to work around that. It's no different.

GM does not support swapping tow mirrors unless you have a basic features.  GM only makes 2 types of tow mirrors for the 1500, basic with power adjust , and fully loaded (blind spot, 360 camera, and power folding).  I added the fully loaded mirrors to my basic LTZ that doesn’t have 360 cameras, they bolted up and work great.  I still need to add the door harness so that the extra lights on these mirrors work.

 

FYI these mirrors mirrors are $800+ per side and door harness $100 per side.

On my 2011 2500 truck there were the standard mirrors when I saw it on the lot and I got the dealer to agree to swap them out for the tow mirrors. No big deal as they both mounted the same and the wiring for adjusting the mirrors and the LED turn signal indicators was the same. I doubt that GM would make trucks so that when adding one type of mirror for the build based on the dealer's order that something other than the mirror needed to be changed.

 

Tow mirrors in the past have not have the blind side detection but that is changing with some of the 2021 trucks, Ram trucks for example.

The tow mirrors on the high end trucks do have blind spot, my LTZ has them.

What was the process like after you got it hooked up? As in any programming needs or getting the power mirror adjusters working or lights? 
 

Got my free oil change at the dealership today and asked them about it and the guy was like “probably around 500 for install”. That seems outrageous to me. You did it easy enough on your own?

Just plug and play, it took maybe 45 minutes total to remove the door panels and install them.  I haven't done any programming, and I don't plan to.  I just ordered the new correct door harness for these tow mirrors, hopefully they arrive soon and I can know for sure if all the lights work properly.  I do know that the wires are properly landed from the BCM to the door harness, but I do not know if they need to be programmed to work.  I'll let you know how it goes.

      Because single shot injectors are ancient and multi hole injectors provide smoother running engines and sharper throttle response due to the fuel being atomized better..the best lead I have is a 24lb blue top injector almost everything matches up but the injector will put out about 26lb/hr which is just outside the gm threshold.figured id ask here to see if there was an absolute answer

      Why is my question?   Any change in injectors requires a tune. Unless you are going back with the OEM part number or a newer part number of that same injector.   Any size difference or type difference like the EV6 style injectors all have different injector data for them. And there is no EV6 injector that matches the factory 25 lb/hr size that your truck comes with. I've been messing with these trucks and tuning them for a long time and what you trying to do doesn't exactly make sense to me.

      My 6.6 gas lt8 had lifter noise with 28000 miles bought new 2026 and while driven to dealer it threw #1 rod bearing “HD my ass” good luck with yours i hope it don’t turn a rod bearing!

      Thought it was raining this morning when we woke. Nope. Dew point was over 80 F and humidity 98%. Zero visibility distance. Everything was 'sweating'. I've seen rain come out of clouds but never out of Pepper or the tree trunks.    Wicked storms just missed us sliding off to the east but by blocks. Heat index about 110 F with air temp in the 90's.    This is  our third wave this month of multiple days of this type of weather. And yet the grass is going dormant and the ground is cracking this side of the street and water up the the hood opposite. Just weird stuff going on.
