salvage yard and get the assembly

Or buy a new one. The cost to install it may surprise you. Seems it's not something your hubby can do.

Welcome to this forum!  There are many helpful members who contribute and can help you with such issues.  Get your husband to join and he'll be able to find answers to his questions before causing more damage to your truck.  Take the truck to a reputable mechanic and have it fixed.  You should then read your owners' manual cover to cover.  It is an easy read and you'll discover all kinds of information that you will likely need in the future!

Welcome to the site.

It is not a servable part, meaning the whole thing has to be replaced, the one in my 2008 broke while half engaged.

It was under warranty, so it went to dealer, but is not really an easy fix.
