HARD TONNEAU

I just got the Bakflip MX4 installed. I noticed that I have to open the inner tailgate to pop open the back of the tonneau to get the rest of the tailgate to come down. I don't know if that's just the way it is, but it seems to be a minor inconvenience. Love the seal on it; my previous truck had the Bakflip Revolver, but since I used it a lot the plastic clips for the rails would come off or break.

I installed a roll and lock canister tonneau cover yesterday you can open either the tailgate or the cover with the other still locked. Like it allot

I have the BakFlip MX4 also and love the cover, very nice and can hold a heavy load of snow in the winter with no issues. Looks great and has a very low profile.

As far as your tailgate issue, that is due to the stiff rear seal, what I did is used some silicone spray on a rag and liberally wiped down the rubber seals and it now works perfectly when releasing the tailgate.

Yes, the tailgate opens/closes easily with the cover in place. I have the LoMax tri fold.

To @LowCountryDenali... your cover looks fantastic!!

Pros & Cons to each:

Hard flip - get virtually full use of bed length; 'slightly' more work to operate but not bad, when fully open it blocks your view out of the rear window.

Hard retractable - 'slightly' easier to operate, get full visual out of rear window whether cover is closed or retracted; has canister for cover to roll into which block some usage of the bed length (can still fit things underneath).

Hard roll up - I have no experience with these but it looks like you get full bed length since it rolls on top of the rails... does not cover the entire rear window like a flip up does.... not as visually appealing when retracted though.

I've had a RetraxOne on a previous truck which I absolutely loved. The canister was large it rolled into but for my specifics needs was never really a problem.

I currently have a Bakflip fibermax which works well but I don't like it as much. I have found that I prefer the retractable kind over the flip but that's personal preference.

I am considering selling my Bakflip in exchange for the Roll-n-lock A series although I have not seem them in person. The canister it rolls into appears to be much smaller than the Retrax I had, and UWS makes an undertonneau storage checks that works with it... I'd like to get that combo and install Bedrug carpeting. Might have to deplete my kid's college savings account though JK

Would you buy this again? I just posted without seeing your picture. Is this the M series or A series? I'm looking to replace my current cover and would like one like yours. Any chance you can send a picture of it rolled up into the canister so we can see it's size in relation to the bed and clearance below to the deck? THANKS!

Mine is LoMax Access Tri-fold and it actually folds only twice as the 3rd panel nearest the cab doesn't fold up towards the rear window. It's easily removable for full bed access. I believe it's the LoMax Stance that folds up completely and blocks the rear window.

Also, I have the Bedrug custom fit for my short bed and it's great. Perfect fit and I haven't yet used the bed tie-down strips that came with it. Given that the tonneau stays closed I see no need to "glue" down the BedRug.

I have the LoMAX and the tailgate drops just fine when using the remote open.

Yes, with the Gator closed it still opens remotely and closes snugly! Plus either the cover or the tailgate can open independent of the other!

MX4 yes, the tailgate still works fine.....

Might need to put a little bit of silicone spray on the cover seals so it won't "grab" and allow it to open automatically.

Love my MX4.....apply silicone spray maybe once every 6-months.

So far, so good. Great fit and finish. Pretty much waterproofs the bed too. It's the LOMax Access which is more moderately priced than the LOMax Stance. $883 with free shipping from autoanything.com

I put the Undercover Armor Flex on mine, auto down still works on the tailgate, no issues at all. Install took about 30-40 minutes and no surprises there. Love that it has Line-X coating on the top to avoid scratches and dents.
